Yeah SMGs are too good right now, they basically invalidate ARs and most DMRs. Meanwhile on the flip side you have LMGs which basically have no role, they're no better than a good AR in most cases with a few niche exceptions like the KTS100.
Frankly, LMG attachment cost should be reduced significantly that way there's a reason to use them: they're great no holds barred weapons platform that are a bit bulky and unwieldy compared to other weapons.
That gives them their identity.
SMGs just need their precision lowered, they're far too accurate at medium range to the point where their lower damage output doesn't balance them (considering how easy it is to get more ammo in BF6).

Your first error is that you came into Battlefield expecting a shred of realism. This game is an arcade shooter through and through with the (now barely) skin of a war game.
As it stands, just use what is good, all of the categories of weapon are honestly just visual, some SMGS behave way better than LMGs and fit their role way better. Just think of it as "ammo count for gun," "damage of boolet" and "does gun shoot straight?" and that sums up most of the gunplay.
Best part is,
There is no balance in this game :)

The issue is bloom, SMG has no bloom of first 5 bullets, so it's best weapon to shoot people on mid - long range.
