absolutely, BF2042
the fps 20~42 issue was fixed quickly after release
the scoreboard was added after
then a few balancing here and there
and especially finally got rid of the gamebreaking Drone+C5 exploit
BF2042 has been awesome for at least 4~ years, and for my taste it is the current best BF live after BFBC2 was shut down
best maps, even from different BF eras
best weapon handling
best weapon modification
best vehicle and aircraft handling
best character control
best immersive gameplay
last year BF2042 has received some major updates as well as the Iwo Jima map and by this addition the end of the hidden Phantom Protocol campaign
the current downside is, EA has removed a lots of QoL features and events in BF2042 in favor to the BF6 slop release. before BF6 v1.0 they had promised to bring back all that stuff, even new stuff to unlock as weapons and vehicles etc .. and yet we are waiting ..
it is too obvious as EA let BF2042 to bleed out .. putting any available resources into the Codfield 6 meatgrinder
however, the official BF2042 Community Calendar is still ongoing:

It has a loyal player base, but they killed it by removing Conquest 64 and the short map mode.
Breakthrough mode is completely dead, and Conquest 128 has over 50% bots. Some of us optimized our PCs to play with up to 64 players, but we can't play with 128.

Yes. Peak there's still plenty of players especially with crossplay.

Don't pick it up, the game is dead and there are still several bugs that won't be fixed.
If the BF 2042 were made free, it would be one of the best shooters today.
