[Proton Linux] ET: Legacy frozen screen after disconnecting and map changes

Hust607 · 30 Apr 2022 at 02:55 · permalink

Running this game through ET: Legacy with Proton under Linux. Game runs great, but whenever I disconnect from a match or the match ends and a level change is activated, the games screen completely seizes, but everything is still fully functional input wise; I just get stuck on a single frame and can't see what I'm doing.
Any fixes?

Method 2 at about 3 mins, explains how to run it native on steam. There is no need for proton as ET: Legacy has linux binaries. Video is from a dev.

I did try that for a bit, but some of the servers wouldn't let me join, presumably because of PunkBuster enabled servers? It'd boot me back to menu and say "VM_Create on cgame failed" or something of that sort. I figured if I could fix the screen freezing somehow, then I'd be able to play the whole server list instead of just select servers.

my guess is you are using 64bit ET:L and only legacy and etjump mods support 64bit
try it with 32bit engine

I am running 32-bit. I did end up realizing I could still type "vid_restart" in console, and it'd refresh the game's video output, so it's not a perfect fix for the screen freezing, but it works.
