My only real criticism is that controller support is kinda jank, but its incredible that a fan-made mod integrated it into a Quake 3-based engine. Bought the real game on Steam just to play this mod. Keep in mind, this is all Steam Deck impressions:
- Navigating with the Dpad on the main menu gets super sticky on the bottom Discord/Donate buttons
- You can't accept/exit/navigate the menu with the Dpad. I realized you have to navigate menus using the LStick like its Destiny 2
- No weapon wheel or slowdown while switching weapons. There are alot of guns in Real RTCW and you can be scrolling alot, unless you make a steamdeck-specific config
- I can feel the jank with the auto-aim. This isn't console-grade rotational aim assist. Often, you'll be 'snapping' onto heads, which is obviously better than without. I just wish it felt more natural (ex. your aim slows down near enemies like Halo)
- Lots of framerate drops on Steamdeck (below 60fps). Not sure what default settings are causing them
The sheer amount of content this mod offers is really cool. There are a ton more weapons and the models/animations feel like a step up from the original game without feeling like they don't belong. I was messing around in Survival mode just having fun for like 2 hours, exploring and fighting thru waves just to get a feel for the combat.
Really happy with what I played. Thank you for your hard work.
