Still cant ever scope in with the snooper rifle or else the green scope apparently breaks the game. Did this on survival on the church level

Step 1:select the weapon. Step 2. scope in with the nightvision thing. step 3. fire. THE GAME CRASHES.
I would need a crashlog
sure, dm me if needed
nvm, i had to use grok to shorten the console log because it was 3 million characters or higher and it went above the limit, so i shortened it to only one error per type, and put (Xnumberhere) for how many times it repeats. The only thing that may be the issue is vanilla texture files conflicting with the HD rmeakes of the snooper rofile scope and viewfinder textures, as if i fire it without being scoped in, nothing happens.

here's the relevant errors and what i was told. these may help but idk if they will, snce some of them relate to the player model head information, which might be minor issues.
^3WARNING: Failed to allocate source for loop sfx 138 on entity 0 (repeated ~50+ times)
→ The game tried to play a looping sound (probably a fire or ambient effect) but ran out of sound channels. Harmless but spammy.
^3WARNING: Failed to allocate source for loop sfx 156 on entity 0 (repeated many times)
→ Same as above, another looping sound that couldn't play because no free sound slots.
^1R_AddMDCSurfaces: no such frame X to Y for 'models/players/warrior/head.md3' (repeated constantly with different frame numbers)
→ The player head model is trying to play an animation frame that doesn't exist. Common with mismatched player models or HD packs.
^1Skin name exceeds MAX_QPATH (repeated dozens of times during weapon load)
→ Weapon skin file paths are too long for the engine to handle. Happens a lot with RealRTCW's HD weapon packs.
The only 2 that are relevant or involve the snooper rifle:
^1Couldn't find image file for shader models/weapons/rifles/snooper/wpn_optic.jpger.jpg
→ This is the big one. The game is looking for the scope optic texture when you scope in, but the file is missing or has a broken name (notice the weird ".jpger.jpg" at the end). This almost certainly causes the crash when you scope + fire.
^1Skin name exceeds MAX_QPATH (repeated many times while loading weapons)
→ The Snooper (and several other weapons) triggered this during skin loading. It means the HD skin file paths are too long for the old engine. (This one, no idea if relevant because im not using the old rendering engine in-game ie vanilla+, im using the hd skins that RealRTCW has as the defaults.
Extra aside from me: I reported the bug back in 2024 and it's still happening, in 2026, on a semi-modern wndows 11 pc build, so it's not my pc, it's the game.

the only one we should worry about here is signal 8 error. I dont know what is causing this because i need to replicate it on my PC.
I can only suggest to do a clean reinstall and redownload realrtcw and rtcw.
Also recent hotfix that i uploaded just now is fixing some serious crash. Fix for that was kinda general in its nature so it could fix yours, maybe.

The crash is 100% reproducible on my end:
Equip Snooper rifle
Scope in
Fire once
Game crashes instantly with signal 8 every single time.
It does not happen in vanilla RTCW, only in RealRTCW with my current pk3s.
The log shows:
Couldn't find image file for shader models/weapons/rifles/snooper/wpn_optic.jpger.jpg.
is the scope optic shader supposed to be named "/wpn_optic.jpger.jpg."??
no, its not an optic shader. Its a scope 3rd person texture
Its hard to tell what is going on. I will try to reproduce it but so far you are the only one with this issue, maybe someone else will report it too.

Makes me wonder if it's the HD textures/models, because i can move around fine but if i SHOOT after scoping in, the game goes "yeah fak u" and crashes instantly. no error message no nothing, and i have a pc made in 2025. it should be able to handle this just fine.

I dont use third person tho.. This issue is still confusing.
Yep. The hd models are broken and I just tested it. i cant scope in and shoot with The HD versions but the second i switch the models to "Vanilla" the snooper rifle works fine, so It's going to have to involve debugging the hd snooper rifle and checking what's making it crash the game.
Also, apparently the signal 8 error is because of this: (Straight from Grok when i asked for clarification. Feel Free to correct anything, but I think we might be close to fixing it, assuming you have to do an update/patch to fix the typo, or a hotfix.
"Signal 8 (SIGFPE) is a floating-point exception meaning the game tried to perform a math operation that is impossible — most commonly dividing by zero or using an invalid number (NaN).
RealRTCW is built on a heavily modified id Tech 3 engine (the same old Quake 3 engine that Return to Castle Wolfenstein originally used in 2001). This engine is very old and has almost no error protection. When it hits a bad math calculation, it just immediately crashes with "Signal 8".
What it means:
The crash is triggered the exact moment they scope in and fire the Snooper rifle.
The log clearly shows the engine is trying to load a texture called:
models/weapons/rifles/snooper/wpn_optic.jpger.jpg
That filename is wrong. It should be wpn_optic.jpg, not wpn_optic.jpger.jpg. The extra "er" is a typo in one of the HD shader files. Because the texture is missing/broken, the engine tries to do calculations (zoom, recoil, animation timing, etc.) using invalid data. The old id Tech 3 engine can’t handle it."
