Cannot access the notebook! Cannot look down rifle sights?

When I press N, nothing happens. I cannot find anything in key bindings indicating I should use another key, instead. What's up with that?
When I pick of a long rifle, it is really hard to target enemies beyond close range, as I'm always shooting from the hip, as it were. Is there no way to look down the sights for better aiming? Will I run into the same issue with scope-mounted weapons later in the game?
I have to say, if not for this mod, I would have already uninstalled the game. My memories of it were quite charitable. I'm sure RtCW was fantastic at the time of release, when last I played it.

In this version, notebook is binded to TAB by default
well, scoped mauser and FG42 are the only base game guns you can aim with
I can't remember not having them on more open maps

Simple zoom feature will be introduced in 5.4. Might address the issue you mentioned.

Thanks for your replies!
I imagine the last time I played this game, I was using a CRT and running at 1600×1200 or something. I remember it looking better than most anything else I was playing at the time.
It is wonderful that there are fans out there with the skills needed to bring a classic like this into the modern era. Thanks for all that you guys are doing!

Thank you for the kind words! It really matters.
Anyways I was on my phone. But now I can answer properly.
Simple zoom is a new feature in 5.4 - you basically can slightly zoom in with any weapon to better aim at your target - it wont change your movement or spread like ADS usually do in video games. It is just a simple slight zoom in without any scopes models/textures on screen. Similar to AUG/Krieg 552 in CS 1.6/ CSS.
I added this as a part of greatly improved controller support efforts but you can use it on KMB too.

That is fantastic!
I've spent the last couple hours with the game, and it has brought back many good memories. I can see myself running through it again, maybe even trying out this realism mode of yours.
I'm sure it will kick my ass!
