You should check rtcwpro.com, seems to be pretty much alive.
The discord server RTCW community still seems active.
However, after I download and installed the files I tried to join a lobby that wasn't just bots. I was immediately told to "Fuck off" and kicked from the lobby. Didn't really stay to try anymore after that.
This discord is North American community. We can point you to eu if need be.

Chances are you joined a match and didn't pay attention to the messages in console so they had to kick you. Competitive games are organized on discord and the order is very strict: signup, wait, play.

And in 2024: Still a thing? :) Played in a RTCW and later RTCW:ET clan many moons ago (feels like yesterday but it's more like 20-25 years ago haha) and managed to install RTCW on my Apple MBP M1 yesterday. Now doing SP again. Found MP server but those are full of bots it seams. Playing with iowolf and the PAK files I bought for a fiver via Gog. Was too lazy to source my old RTCW key somewhere in my pile of archive.
