Genuinely don’t know how yall defend aim assist or get offended by people criticising it.

gdgseeF · 5 Sep 2026 at 03:57 · permalink

(I wanna preface this, this isn’t pointed towards the good players in the community or the casuals that dont play the game that often, or the players who don’t use or need aim assist, this isn’t aimed towards yall, but if you get offended then maybe it is)….

I say this as someone who played controller for the last 6 years before I transferred to mnk (on Xbox) because aim assist is just no skill. Genuinely how are people defending aim assist. I get it’s needed and I’m not saying it should be removed, but it definitely needs a nerf. The fact that they’re flinching rounds in the game, but they’re completey useless to mnk players because aim assist just counteracts it. They’re attachments to reduce recoil and help with aim, but controller players don’t even use them cause it’s just not needed, they’re are metas like jump shotting that only really benefit controller players cause it makes you harder to hit and it doesn’t affect they’re aim whatsoever. Mnk players can still jump shot but they need actual skill to keep tracking players when doing so and it’s no where near as affective. Aim assist just aims for you.

Yall controller players have the biggest egos for no reason. Yall are carried by aim assist and you have the gaul to act like you’re good at the game. And I can say that because when I played controller I also used to think I was good. I was slamming people like no tomorrow, I could control recoil, my tracking was on point. And then I decided to try mnk and realised how easy controller players have it. And I know yall are gonna attack me for this, saying “youre just bad” because MOST of yall are hopeless without aim assist.

In what world can a level 40 controller player out gun a max level mnk player? In what world is it ok for controller players to completey take advantage of stuff like flinching rounds that completely ruin mnk aim, but when mnk players use it, it does nothing cause of aim assist, in what world is it ok for controller players to take advantage of movement tech like jump shotting and drop shotting in which aim assist carries, and yall complain about mnk movement as if controller players can’t also do the movement they can, like the only difference is being able to turn quicker but why does that matter when controller players can still out kill you before you even turn around.

I’ve reached the highest rank in alot of shooters (apex, Fortnite, halo, cod, overwatch, siege, etc) both on controller and mnk. And I’ve never played a game with this much aim assist. Even apex wasn’t this bad. This shite aims for you. And we’ve all seen the clips of mw4 where that shite tracks like aimbot even after the slight nerf. Genuinely how are yall defending this. And I know damn well it’s only the people that need it because I’ve met people who actually have skill and they say aim assist is op. People are choosing controller cause of aim assist. Like yall are carried, they’ve made this game that already is one of the easiest shooters, even easier for yall. And even worse, how are yall max levels STILL using controller. Like how are yall choosing to use aim assist when you’re probably good enough to just use mnk and show off actual skill. Unless you’re not good enough in which that’s why you use it. Genuinely there is no difference between a max levels aim versus a level 40s aim when it comes to aim assist. As I said the only difference is game sense and map knowledge. That shite is closer to aim bot than anything. Oh and yall take advantage of the meta like crazy. Smgs that already have very little recoil, snipers that magnetise to players. Like it’s pathetic, but I have less of a problem if you take advantage of meta. Just sucks that the meta is entirely built around controller players. I understand it’s needed, but this is just over the top. Yall would not survive in siege where there isn’t any aim assist and they’re still slamming mnk players, actually yall wouldn’t survive in any other shooter, cause of how bad the aim assist is.

It’s even to the extent it affects matchmaking. Level 40s who hit every shot cause of aim assist are being put with high level players purely because they have the ability to get kills easier. It’s like when people try to tell if you’re using aim bot, they have no game sense, no mechanics, no movement, no awareness or map knowledge. That’s just the average controller player because yall are carried by aim assist but have a little bit of knowledge because of exposure to the amount of time played, they’re is no skill gap in this game, it’s just who can’t take advantage of aim assist better, mixed in with actual skilful mnk players, and the occasional good controller player.

Now I know I just made a little of yall really upset, but before all you aim assist bots come at me, remember this, you need aim assist to even do anything in a game that’s already easy, wouldn’t be surprised if half of yall are campers too.
I don’t, I don’t need aim assist and I promise you I would shite on yall with actual skill. Your aim assist only carries you so far.
To the actual good players that choose to use aim assist for what ever reason, I don’t have a problem with you, It confuses me as to why you still use controllers when I’m sure you could very easily adjust to mnk and show off your actual skill. But what ever. I don’t even know why I said good players. Yall have the biggest egos that the people being carried by aim assist think they’re good. Just know I congratulate the actual skilful players in the community who ever yall might be.

If you’re offended by this post, then this post is directly aimed towards you. I don’t mean any harm in this, but when I get talked shite on by a controller player who’s carried by aim assist, you know damn well I’m going all out. The point of this post is to get an understanding, and would like to spread awareness around this dumb arse mechanic because it ruins the game for any mnk player trying to get in, or already in the game as wel

Maybe they should just make PC and console separate like old times

glc8456 · 5 Sep 2026 at 04:06 · permalink

this is just cod dude. controller is the dominant input and it wont ever change so why even devote this much energy. it sucks, its not unplayable but youre disadvantaged on kbm, we been knowing this since mw2019. just gg go next or play an actual competitive title like counter strike or overwatch. cod is like the weenie hut juniors of comp FPS anyway, this is just one of many factors that will permanently be in cod that diminish the skill gap.

I'll defend aim assist. I'm trying to give you a good faith explanation for what I honestly think, so don't get mad at me.

Firstly your post doesn't offend me, you're right that MnK is way harder, that is true.

I think Activision just wants CoD to be a controller game, for whatever reason. They want the aiming aspect of the game to be seamless, they want things to feel fast and responsive and smooth and snappy. They want young kids to play the game and think they are demons. Moreover, it's not easy to really balance controller against MnK. It's apples and oranges. So they just don't want to deal with that. I could understand the argument for input separated lobbies, but I think they don't want to do that either because they care more about matchmaking times and they don't want to have like two separate CDLs and all this mess to deal with.

Now, I play controller and one thing I disagree with in particular with what you said is that controller takes no skill. Now, controller takes very little skill \to aim\. But there is a ton more to this game than just aiming. This is what I feel like everyone misses. A lot of people reduce this game to just you know, who can win their 1s the most, who is the most CS-pilled, etc. but I think the most interesting part of the game is all in the tactics. Which angles to cover, how to play as a team, how to play the objective, how to be offensive vs defensive, how to pick the right loadouts, how to set traps and cover the map most efficiently, and so on.

I wouldn't be mad really if this game favored MnK more somehow, but it doesn't and this is the game we have and I play on controller and it's fine, it's fun. I like MnK and I use it to play other games.

I agree, but I’m also not opposed to what we have right now. I’m willing to deal with the aim assist, but I’m just so sick of seeing aim assist track me across the map.

I don’t disagree, doesn’t mean I have to be happy with it or agree with it. That show people get walked over. I have a problem, I’m gonna voice it on reddit where people close their issues. Not saying you are but if you are upset with that, don’t comment. 👍

I ain’t gonna get mad at you, that’s not the point of this post. Was just saying things for the people who do get mad at me. It is a discussion after all :)

I don’t disagree, but that also hasn’t stopped other companies from nerfing aim assist. Apex buffed it because it became primarily console purchased game, and then nerfed kr because they over did it. Siege constantly makes adjustments for controller despite the fact it was pc dominant. So I dont disagree but that’s also not a good enough reason. The wanting young kids to play the game also isn’t a good enough reason considering the game is primarily 15+ having younger kids first of all, removed the relevance of the m, or ma15+ rating but also means they are targeting an important enough audience, which isn’t a good thing.

What you said about skill, also isn’t controller related. Being good at picking load outs and setting up the map properly despite the importance of that doesn’t change the fact that controller actually just isn’t skill related. As I said a noob can pick up the controller and out gun a veteran. That’s not skill and I know this because I used controller for majority of my life. Cod isn’t the game where offensive and defensive capabilities are game changing. Especially in the non battle Royale games. You could have the same plan, or bomb rush and use it the exact same way whether you are defending or attacking a bomb etc. like I said, map knowledge, game awareness and mechanics are all important, and that’s why aim assist is so costly because it’s like aimbot and how aimbot impacts match making. Aimbot increases your gun play and your win ability in your ones. Getting more kills in games like death match put you into higher tier lobbies. Meaning there a level 40 players being put into lobbies with players who have the game awareness and mechanics bla bla bla, but are out into the same class as then because of aim assist. So I’m gonna stuck with what I’m saying because controller absolutely is very little skill, to the extent that a person who doesn’t play shooters could pick up the controller and still dominate. What kind of skill gap does that create. Again I’m gonna preface I’ve played controller. I know the ins and outs. If you were to make this argument for any other shooter then I would agree. But cod is not that kinda shooter. Unless we are talking about war zone, in which rotations and stuff come into play. But cod mw3 legit has players doing the same thing over and over again, same bomb rushes, same map rotations to get to locations quicker. Being a good offensive or defensive player has very little effect in a game like cod. Even halo, but I would argue halo has a bigger skill gap when it comes to offensive and defensive play like you said.

I’m not asking the game to be mnk favoured, Infact im fine with it being controller favoured, but this isn’t even a close match up. The disadvantage that the mnk players have shouldn’t be this large. I just suggest a slight adjustment or nerf to the aim assist.

these anti-controller MnK bots are whiny af and act like they’re an oppressed group in the community.

they are not forced to play on that input, they can easily get a controller plugged in if they actually wanna take the game serious enough if they feel like they are that much at a disadvantage.

i get not liking it, but literally nothing will change. theres not enough keyboard players to justify handicapping the lions share of their player base. its not a secret that aim assist is strong, its just that asking for changes, in an old cod title, is just screaming at clouds. accomplishing absolutely nothing.

youre better off writing this post on a piece of paper, then burning it. atleast that way, youll have some warmth for a moment.

How would that help when the discussion is about input and both console and pc can use both inputs?

gdgseeF · 5 Sep 2026 at 05:18 · permalink

Originally, this was posted to the cod reddit, but I was told to put it here because they asked to put in tags the game, and I was talking broadly about all the current games, but they didn’t like that so they told me to put it here. The initial argument was meant to be for all recent cods. Not just mw3. So I’m not gonna argue your old cod point.

First of all this is just a silly mindset. Restricting your player base to one side of the game is how games lose popularity. Especially shooters. Using the stupid TikTok argument that the game is majourity console players means that mnk players shouldn’t even have a chance is just stupid. Siege is a primarily mnk game. Or at least it was, not so sure now. And yet they constantly made changes to support controller players, apex was a primarily mnk game, and they made changes like increasing aim assist for console players which drew more console players in. They then had the same issue as cod where pros and players where choosing console because aim assist was just op. Wasn’t because they liked controller better, wasn’t because they were used to controller. It was because of aim assist. It’s just silly to nuke one side of the game for the other, and I know it’s just coming from someone who doesn’t know a world without aim assist, which is fine. But shooters have constantly made changes to support both sides despite the ratio and that has always brought more players in. It just feels like yall are gatekeeping this game in a way. So that’s a silly argument.

Again I don’t gaf whether you think this is a waste of energy. I’m looking for people to discuss with. Not for people to soft core defend it and bring nothing to the argument but “youre just wasting your time 🤓”. You’re defending it in a passive slightly aggressive way to avoid conflict. You’re not bringing anything to the argument apart from telling me I’m wasting my time. And you doing this so you can defend your side without having to prove anything. Doesn’t work in debates, not gonna work here. So again, if you’ve got no other points apart from controller majourity and that in wasting my time. I’m gonna ask that you stop commenting because otherwise this isn’t gonna go anywhere. If you’d like to read some of the other debates as they come in, maybe it’ll clear up what you’re doing versus when everyone else is doing. :)

So youre argument is, “well I don’t want my input to change because I can’t play without aim assist, so I’m gonna make everyone else sacrifice”. Yeah so, youll learn very quickly that aim assist can’t carry you through argument like it does in game.

How about you go play any other shooter ya bot, and realise how easy yall have it. I played controller for years and I woke up and realised it wasn’t proving anything, it was helping me improve anything. You need to realise that a slight nerd to the aim assist to help everyone involved isn’t the end of the world.

Go back to being carried by aim assist you controller bot. Wake up and realise that yall are egotistical and selfish, and can’t fathom the idea of using real skill.

Aim assist bot.

I’m mostly annoyed the skill gap between average and good player has been reduced so much because of the intensity of aim assist in mw4. Why cater to casual so much? That’s some weak moves. What drives me is seeing a better player! I WANT low aim assist I want to see the good players the skill gap is what drives me to be better.

Alas I see just a bunch of average players
