Kingdom Come deliverance 2, not the Skyrim I was promised

This game was reccomended to me when I wrote a post about how Skyrim still has one of the most engaging world designs even 15 years later. They said that kcd2 is like the modern skyrim. I bought the game expecting something special, and I was very dissapointed.

The biggest issue with this game is that it plays like manual labor. I dont mean that as an expression, its literally manual labor. If you want to do smithing, you literally have to hit a hammer on a sword for like 6 minutes and put it in a fire. As a person who doesnt like working, this was pure torture. Almost every mechanic in this game has a similar chore feeling to it. If you want to make potions, its manual labor, if you want to thieve, it requires labor.

Even the combat is a chore to play. It tries very hard to reinvent sword combat, but its very clunky and requires probably online research just to understand it. Theres no intuitive combat experience. I literally played 25 hours of this game and avoided fighting from how much I disliked it. I have a personal hatred towards sword games that force you to parry, because parrying is always a frustrating experience in games.

It didnt remind me of skyrim much at all. First of all its realistic, so no magic or dragons. Second, the world design doesnt give you the freedom of skyrim. Sure there was open world, but it wasnt inspiring to explore it. It felt like everything had this extreme realism to the point that it made things feel out of reach. You literally had to sleep or eat or else you die. You get sick, you get poisoned, its so inconvenient to play this game.

In skyrim you could actually role play and really take over things, you felt powerful in your capabilities to influence the world. In KCD2 the game wants you to feel like a poor person in the middle ages with no power in the world. Its not the type of feeling I come to a RPG for.

The dialogue and choices are good, its one of the games strong parts. The issue is that the main character is a bore. He just has nothing entertaining about him, and I dont like that you are forced to play as him. You cant make a different character, and it diminishes the rpg feeling when you are forced to be a boring character.

The game had good graphics, but which 2024 game doesnt? It doesnt mean anything to me anymore.

Skyrim was beautiful in a artistic way, had amazing towns, great music, exciting world to explore. You really felt like you could do anything, and just freely enjoy that world. KCD2 is really nothing like SKyrim, the only similairites is that theres swords, armor and you could explore.

Honestly very odd take on a spectacular game

Pretty much this yeah. My brother was OBSESSED with KCD2 and was begging me to try it out. I was hesitant because I bounced off of KCD1 pretty hard but KCD2 looked really fun and innovative.

Nope it was uh, the same thing. Maybe cause it’s less of a fantasy game and more of a history game? I dunno. Just lacked whimsy for me. I’m glad a lot of people loved it, but it just wasn’t for me.

KCD2 (and KCd1) is a special game, but it’s nothing like Skyrim.

Yeah, not sure who suggested that. Very different games.

They both have open-ish worlds and are in first person. Thats about where the similarities end tho lol

I wanted so badly to love this game. And for a while I did. I was terrible at the combat, but I found a mod to make it easier. So that helped me a lot.

Then I got to a main quest that was just talked to this guy, then go talk to this other guy and then go talk to this guy and then go talk to the other guy again and then go back and talk to this other guy.

I tapped out.

Whoever suggested KCD2 was the new Skyrim is just plain wrong. Skyrim was once my favourite game, and at a point KCD2 was. They’re both brilliant. The combat is also so good, you have to actually get good at it, mirroring Henry (although this applies more to KCD1). It sounds like the game wasn’t for you

I respect you opinion, but you are wrong and a terrible person.

Sucks you didn’t like the game though

A better recommendation for you would be Tainted Grail. Much more like a darker Skyrim in mechanics and gameplay.

KCD2 is more a medieval life sim

Here I was loving all the mechanics he disliked. I think it’s a very solid experience how it’s presented

Uh, I mean... you're right, it's definitely not Skyrim, and if you're judging it solely by that criteria then I'm not surprised you were disappointed.

My own issue with the game was that every time it seems like you're making progress in the narrative Henry somehow winds up imprisoned again. The first game also had a very slow beginning but KCD2 drags things out to an obnoxious degree.

Who told you this game was like Skyrim? From what I've seen, the meme is that this game usually ends up filtering Skyrim players, hard and fast.

I've only played the first one (until it started causing my PC to hard shutdown), but if the second is anything like the first, I can certainly see why you were disappointed if you were expecting a casual power fantasy like Skyrim.
