How To: Run DLSS 5 & "real" MFG (multi frame gen) on any NVIDIA 4000 class card

Little guide for all those who game on a NVIDIA 4000 class card and want to run DLSS 5 with "real" multi frame gen

Step 1: Download OptiScaler\_DLSSNR (Link: https://github.com/Dagherbou/OptiScaler\_DLSSNR) -> Install OptiScaler\_DLSSNR , set it up (run it ingame, so the optiscaler.ini properly sets up)

Step 2: Download ReShade Setup with full Add-on support (https://reshade.me/#download) -> unpack (not run!) and copy the ReShade64.dll into the folder of your game exe

Step 3: Edit the Optiscaler.Ini and set LoadReshade to "true"

Step 4: Download MFGAdaUnlock-RenoDx (Link: https://github.com/mavismmg/MFGAdaUnlock-RenoDx/)

\-> Place the renodx-mfgunlock.addon64 file (from the github linked here) into the folder with the game exe Optiscaler will now automatically load the addon64 file, no need to set up Reshade.

Step 5: Enjoy proper 4x MFG with DLSS 5.

good to know:

This will likely only work with games that have native DLSS and MFG support.

Often the game exe that needs to be modified is not in the main folder but in a "binary" or "win64" folder, so check that out first.

The creator of the MFG unlocker that actually utilizes the real NVIDIA pipeline stated on videocardz that he sees no hardware reason why the 4000 generation can't have it and all that could arrive as an issue is a slight increase in input lag, but we're talking only 2 or 3 microseconds.

I wonder if it will become possible on the older RTX cards. Optiscaler allows you to run MFG on the 2000 and 3000 series.

thanks for ELI5. Still, I think I will wait a bit longer before using DLSS 5, as reports of very high power draw and burn out power connectors are coming out (only on 5090 so far that I know).

What’s the difference between this and the one click dlss 5 swapper on GitHub I’ve seen?

Thanks I was messing around with trying this from a nexusmods page and couldnt get it to work. I'll try this.

If you are gonna run ReShade then just use the RenoXD DLSS 5 mod instead of Optiscaler.

I think the simplest manual method is what u/Dos-Commas suggests. If you have an nvidia 20, 30, 40 or 50 series gpu, then download:

1. The latest Nvidia driver which at the time of writing is 616.64 (616.56 also works).
2. Reshade 6.8.0 with full add-on support (do not use addons in multiplayer games. Depth buffer access will likely get you detected by anti-cheat and result in an account ban).
3. ShortFuse's patched nvngx_dlssnr.dll from RenoDX discord (also check pinned comments).
4. ShortFuse's latest renodx-dlss.addon64 from RenoDX discord (check pinned comments for latest stable, or search from:ShortFuse has:file for newer, experimental releases).

Place renodx-dlss.addon64 and nvngx_dlssnr.dll in the same folder as game.exe. You do not need streamline .dlls.

Everything is in development/beta so expect bugs and/or missing functionality.

If you want MFG you have multiple options such as MFGAdaUnlock-RenoDx (linked in OP) and DLSS Enabler.

I haven't found a way to not get unplayable latency in Cyberpunk, on a 4070 (non-super) at MFG 4x or higher (RLat = 100 to 200 ms up from 30 to 60 ms).

I'm sure there will be a more simplified way. I followed a YouTube guide tried it on a game and it kinda worked but not worth the effort .

It messed up the HDR for the game and I hate HDR uninstalling reinstalling validating didn't fix it .

Had to delete some ini file .

But why wouldnt reinstall and validation set it back to vanilla ?

Not a clean easy way to uninstall either.
Theres remnants floating around.

That's pretty odd because Nvidia isn't afraid of performance penalties when making new features available on old hardware (see: DLSS4/TF on Turing and Ampere). I wonder if we'll see official mFG support on Lovelace if the penalty is really this negligible.

Much simpler

Afaik that one uses the "fake" mfg where amds frame gen tech is used in tandem with nvidias

Dlss enabler uses the fake mfg route where Nvidias FG is used in tandem with AMD, causing massive ghosting.

The unlocker in my post utilizes "real" 4x mfg by Nvidia

OptiScaler is right now the superior path because it increases performance and allows you to also change the percentage of DLSS 5 usage.

This means you could, for example, put it to 90%, get almost all of the quality difference, but save some FPS.
