God of war (2005) Patient Review. First time play through

preview

This is my first review and some thoughts I had on God of war as I just wrapped it up.

The God of war series is something I have played completely out of order. I started with God of war 3 then the remake. Only because I just had a ps4

Recently played the psp ones as well

But this was my first step with the original. One word describes this game and series as a whole to me which is Grand. The presentation wants you to believe this game is deeper and bigger than any other you would play

The booming score, the big set pieces, and giant monsters you face all present this.

I think the first half of this game moves at a wonderful pace. I absolutely loved the opening with the battles on ships at sea and the hydra.

It definitely begins to feel repetitive by the end when you go looking for Pandora’s box. And I know they had time constraints and couldn’t really play-test the end game so the last few levels get wonky

But you feel every battle and blow you deal as the god of war. You see the vision for where the franchise is now.

Sure it’s rough in patches but it’s overall still a terrific game that leaves you wanting more.

I would give this an 85/100. It’s not perfect but the vision was there and the hack and slash combat still stands up today. If you haven’t checked out any god of war game definitely do.
