WIP Weapon Consept

Howdy yall i wanted to share a weapon consept im still mulling over. Basically I was thinking about what if other classes had Medevil Mode items? IE a Priamry weapon which is primarily ment for and can be used in Midevil Mode, but can also just generally provide some alternative playstyle in casual, comp, etc. After all Sniper's got the Huntsmen and its reskin, Medic has the Crossbow, and Demoman has the entire subclass of Demoknight. So I began brainstorming some ideas and i think ive got a really interesting one. So I figured id share the consept with yall, even if its not really complete yet.

I call it "The Pyromancer's Tome", a new primary for Pyro, which works similarly to Medic's Vacinator. Giving Pyro access to 3 diffrent spells which they must cycle through.

Firstly would be a "Dragon's Breath Spell" which would be a mix of the Stock Flamethrower and Dragons Fury. The basic idea is that its a roughly Eyelander range beam of fire that deals less damage to enemies without afterburn. Additionally the afterburn aflicted by the beam of fire only last for about 1 or maybe 0.5 seconds, requiring the Pyromancer to properly track their enemy's movement to deal proper damage, similar to Heavy and his Miniguns.

The second Spell is "The Kobold's Spit", which works similarly to the Detonator. As the Pyromancer flings a flaming ball that can be detonated mid flight in a fairly mid sized radius. Getting caught in the explosion or getting hit by the projectile only deals about 5-10 damage, and dose not mini crit burning enemies, but dose afflict afterburn for 10 seconds. This Spell is ment to combo with the Dragon's Breath Spell, allowing the Pyromancer to set enemies on fire as their running in to deal their damage. Not to mention it gives the Pyromancer some kinda option with range.

Then the third spell is the "Thermal Vent Spell", which is basically just airblast. Which is especially important for Pyromancer given their general short range, lack of damage with the Kobold's Spit Spell, and so they can specifically fend off Demoknight.

Additionally there are 2 other spell ideas i had but I wanted to limit the Pyromancer's Tome to 3 spells, so that it dosent become to OP or bloated. Not to mention im unsure if these other 2 spells would be worth it.

The first of these is the "Absorb Flame Spell", im still unsure how Ammo would work with this weapon and this was my initial idea. Basically this spell could be used to extinguish teammates which both healed the Pyromancer and replenished Ammo for the Tome, the entire Ammo reserve being shared across all the spells. But this felt situational, not to mention the healing could just be incorporated into the Thermal Vent Spell.

Then there was the "Draconic Wings Spell" which is inspired by the Thermal Thruster, memt to give Pyromancer a mobility tool.

But that was my WIP consept for the Pyromancer's Tome. Im pretty sure theres plenty of kinks to iron out, but I feel the conspet itself is interesting and solid. Hope yall enjoyed reading about it.

It's a cool concept, I guess I dont see how this is distinct enough from how you typically play pyro anyway to be worth a 'class swap'. Like all 3 spells are effectively the flame thrower and back burner combined, so it wouldnt be economical to get rid of the shotgun and mele weapon for 1 specialised flame thrower

I love this idea though - pyro is the perfect answer to 'offensive wizard' to the game mode, along side demo's swordsman, medics cleric and snipers ranger

I think the fact of the matter is pyro is too tanky to be an effective wizard which is why your kit feels a bit more like a regular pyro plays style jammed into medieval

Now a slowed scout wizard? Thats where i perk up. Lean into the glass cannon element but take away his speed which is now given to demo, and replace it with fire power. He already has 'become ethereal' with his bonk energy drink which could bombo with his 'wand' primary (that only works by equipping the spell book mele weapon which would also reduce his speed to be normal), with the wand itself acting as the flame thrower 'spell' you came up with (obvs tweaked to be more in like with scout and his role)

as fun as this weapon concept sounds, it would be a nightmare to balance. i do kinda fuck with the concept of more medieval type weapons for other classes. give the soldier a catapult!!
