How does someone build themselves?

I feel like I’m losing touch with everything around me.

I’m at a place where I want to grow out of old habits and make changes but I don’t know where to begin. This is personality wise, where I want to be more and have a life.

I usually get told I’m a chill individual, I have moments where I act childish, behave immaturely, and irritate people just by what I do sometimes. I over complicate things so much, the basic things needs to be broken down for me to understand.

Some people characterize me as weird and socially awkward, and I’ve just stuck with that and let it stay with me up till now. I just want to make changes, to get rid of those negative perceptions about me for myself and those who I interact with.

I ask people, older and younger, what they do and what they’ve done to find themselves and know who they are, and it just leads me to acting differently or being more like them.

You can build yourself through small choices over time

If you want to connect, you'll have to put yourself out there. Let go of what holds you down, see what motivates you, and use that to get out there.

Join clubs, go places, meet people like you. Look for the social hubs around you, see what they're up to. Voluntary work seems stupid but ca' be exactly the right thing for you.

Ive been going to therapy for years and it's helped me get more in touch with myself, and be comfortable in that. So maybe therapy could help?

Get a coach or mentor and they’ll tell you what you’re doing and how to approach the same situations instead. It could be speaking skills, being concise, articulation, being more independent and try to take something you don’t understand away yourself and try to work it out yourself before firing off questions without crunching the problem yourself, being more decisive even if your not sure it’s the correct solution you have to have confidence to go with it.

Record yourself with a mentor having a regular conversation so you can see and hear what others do.

For me a lot of stuff like that made sense when I realized that I'm neurodivergent.
Also it helped when I stopped to put my energy trying to be friends with everyone.

For me, it was all the hard times that built my good character!

Have you noticed any changes personally from reading a lot?

You don’t really find yourself first and then start living differently. A lot of it happens the other way around.
Pick one small thing you want to change, practice it consistently and let experience teach you who you’re becoming. You don’t have to rebuild everything at once.
