Am I the only person here who can get anything useful out of our logs?

Been doing this about eight years and somehow I'm the only person who can get anything out of our logging setup. Everyone else opens it, sees the query syntax, gives up and messages me. I've tried fixing it from my side, saved searches for the common stuff, a lunch and learn, a one page cheat sheet, lasted about two weeks. Nobody's learning a query language for the two times a month they need a log. Is anyone running something the whole team can use without training or is this just the job now?

Make sure to turn off your phone during holidays and really enjoy the thought of the educational experience your coworkers are receiving.

Claude ftw. Obviously edit out sensitive information, but AI is great for reading logs.

Was gonna say the same thing. Learn a log query language? Why? Just threw the AI at it.

AI can help to create queries. Really.

If they only need need very specific information, create report pages or just e-mail them a report.

Willful ignorance.

Write a couple SKILL.md and no one will bother you ever again

Any time someone asks you something that's on the cheat sheet, reply saying "look on the cheat sheet."

Unless your syntax is from the bowels of SQL hell, they're just being lazy.

I'd be surprised if someone hasn't done it without editing the sensitive information. Or asked the AI to edit it out

By any chance is it an elastic stack or worse - raw syslog? Even azure logs are indecipherable to 80% of people.

Nobody expects them to do it, so they don't. Simple as.

Give me text logs so I can parse them with whichever tool is appropriate. Not that I'd avoid logs that require a specific query language, but I would be disappointed.
