What game should’ve been right up your alley on paper, but just never hooked you?

You know the kind of game I mean. You look at everything it offers—the genre, setting, combat, story, developer, whatever—and think, “This is literally made for me.”

Then you actually play it…and nothing.

Maybe you even recognize that it’s a good game. You can understand why other people love it. But for whatever reason, you keep putting it down or have to force yourself to continue.

What game was that for you, and what do you think stopped it from clicking?

Bonus points if (1) it’s a game you’ve tried to get into more than once because you really wanted to like it, (2) it became the genre’s go-to standard/fan-favorite, (3) you’ve played basically every other game in that genre and (4) it’s currently staring at you from your library lol.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous.

It has literally everything I want in a game.

I've never made it past the Act 2 intro.

Witcher 3 checks every box for me. But I cannot do it. I’ve tried over and over through the years. But between the movement and the combat, I bounce back off it each time.

The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild

I played the shit outta every Zelda Title on DS and Wii, I like exploring, I like Survival, I like crafting.

The Weapon durability mechanic was a dealbreaker for me though

Baldur's Gate 3. Would love to love it, but I've never made it all the way through the goblin camp.

Baldur's Gate 3.

It's so much game that it's tough for me to actually complete and feels daunting every restart.

Red Dead Redemption 2. I absolutely love exploring games with a rich environment. But for some reason, I just couldn't get past the tutorial area.

Elden Ring

1700 hours on DS3, and Elden Ring is basically DS4. It just didn’t have the PvP aspects that I liked about DS3, despite being an almost identical game.

As an lover of JRPGs, I could not get into Expedition 33.

Its a good game from what I played and can fully understand why it won GOTY at the tga's, but I just feel like i'm retreading beat for beat one of my all-timers in Xenoblade 3

I've been playing WoW on and off for more than 20 years but I never liked another MMORPG.
