Does anyone here use DLSS 5 frequently with their RTX 4080? If so, how is it?

What is the performance like?
How many fps do you usually get in modern games?
Any recommendations to make it run better for the 4080?

Thanks.

Just check YouTube. Tons of videos with DLSS 5 and the card in particular.

5 on 40 series???? not yet

NVIDIA has officially confirmed that the company is working to bring DLSS 5 neural rendering to the previous-generation GeForce RTX 40-Series "Ada Lovelace." Previously, it was believed that DLSS 5 technology would be exclusive to the latest GeForce RTX 50-Series "Blackwell" and future models, without looking back. As NVIDIA continues to focus on hardware-software cooptimization, we now have official confirmation that the GeForce RTX 40-Series will also receive a DLSS 5 port. However, the launch of DLSS 5 on the GeForce RTX 40-Series is secondary, as NVIDIA is still preparing and optimizing performance for the GeForce RTX 50-Series to ensure that the model won't significantly impact the final game performance, despite reportedly being very compute-heavy.

I run with my 4080 Super sometimes to test out in different games. It usually slashes the FPS close to half. I was testing it with Multi frame generation mod, so far it's looking good.

Have you been living in under a rock? People been running dlss5 on 40 series for weeks now,

Nice AI reply too

They mean with mods.

DLSS 5 is only in the new NBA game, only on 50 series and with no controls exposed, otherwise.

I saw a few youtube videos on it, but I didn’t see any video with detailed commentary talking about how best to use it, etc. So I wanted to ask here if someone was a heavy user of DLSS 5 with the 4080

It's an FPS tanker for now so I don't think 40xx users except the 4090 can use it sustainably until the modders work on performance optimizations.

Not AI, i copy from official NVIDIA statement 3 days ago regarding 40s series.

Runs fine with dlss performance + frame gen X2/X4 depending on the game.
Needs bit of tweaking and tinkering in some games but it does the job.

Don't feel the need to upgrade

Are you getting >60 fps on most games you’ve tried it on?

thedarkflamemaster69 · 7 Sep 2026 at 10:31 · permalink

I've been using it on a 4070ti and for most games I've found it is playable. Eg in resonance a plague tale legacy I can play at max settings with DLSS5 but just drop the DLSS level to performance and I get >60 FPS. Outside of games like Forza I've found it's worth using DLSS5 - just drop the upscaling by a level and in most cases I think it's worth the performance hit. Anything competitive or racing games are a different question I guess

Yeah, but it’s already working because of mods. Like otherwise there’s only one game that runs it at all, so there’s no reason to try DLSS5 at all outside of that game.
