Ryzen 9000 series owners, are you using EXPO?

If yes, what speed? What RAM kit are you using?

Just curious how common it is to use EXPO.

I need to RMA a 9600x and I suspect the reason for failure is an issue with the memory controller, probably due to EXPO (hangs on VGA LED during cold boot, hangs on CPU LED when waking from sleep, only solution is reboot). Does AMD reject warranty for EXPO? I did mention I "disabled expo" as part of troubleshooting before realizing that they might reject it since it's technically OC, but they accepted the RMA.

They shouldn't give you any problems

If they do this will be giant scandal.

EXPO, XMP and auto overclocked ram in general (to my knowledge) isn't covered under warrant in writing but it has never been problems with RMA and warranty.

And it's basically an unwritten agreement that it will be covered.

I realized that when I went to OC my CPU and Ram on ryzen master recently I was randomly crashing and I had to do a physical CMOS reset.

I would say don't OC your cpu or run EXPO on ryzen master, but if you go into your motherboard settings you can set your ram to 6000MHZ and also enable the 105TDW for your 9600X which should do almost the same thing as expo from my knowledge besides slightly changing the timings.

Using EXPO isn't necessarily CPU overclocking. The officially supported maximum transfer rate for the 9000 series is 5600 MT/s, which for some DIMMs can only be achieved with EXPO. If you ran the DIMMs e.g. at 6000 MT/s that would technically be CPU overclocking, but I doubt that they'd be able to tell which transfer rate you used.

Yep I have 6000mhz on both my systems.

XMP or EXPO is never guaranteed on all CPUs and all motherboards. They mean these specs work on these exact memory kits with a capable CPU AND capable motherboard

Have you found a solution or you're just dealing with it?

I don't mind the cold boot issue, but my PC is in my room so I need to have sleep working properly, or else I can't sleep properly lol

Zen 6 CPUs will be getting a new memory controller. People with these problems like yourself and OP may want to consider upgrading early next year, not only for performance, but also to deal with memory issues. Either way, you should be able to use the XMP/EXPO profile that your RAM has, but at the same time, it's not a guarantee that it works.. you may have just been unlucky in the "silicon lottery" when it comes to your CPU.

Manufacturers can (and occasionally do) make products knowing full well they will be used in a "non-intended" manner that will void the warranty.

But the second they advertise that use, they then have to cover that as an intended use case under warranty, or else they can get sued.

RAM makers use XMP/EXPO as a selling point, so they have to cover it as an intended use of the product.

our marketing department got reamed by our legal department because they showed an elliptical next to a pool in one of our ads; and keeping fitness equipment in a pool room voids the warranty. That ad got pulled and the whole department got re-trained on legal liability in marketing.
