Help me cope (A long post with TLDR)

XYcanerXY · 4 Aug 2026 at 20:22 · permalink

I am new to this game (38 hours playtime on steam, been nearly two weeks since I started playing plus I'm new to the Battlefield genre as well) and I've been playing Conquest Large for most of the time. However, I am unable to have the kind of fun this game intends to provide to its players. (I know folks may not like it since I'm saying this as a newbie, but please read till the end).

The main problem I'm facing is to cope up with my extremely horrible K/D of 0.45. I know it's not a K/D oriented game but I'm unable to shake the thought that I'm more of a liability to my teammates than as a help, since I'm losing more than 2 tickets for every ticket I gain through a kill.

No matter which way I play, I always get mogged by the enemies within seconds of being spotted. If I'm in a tank, my vehicle gets destroyed within 5 seconds by either an enemy tank/armour/chopper/jet or an engineer using launcher, or a combination of more than one of these.

The same can be said when I am in a chopper or a plane, despite using flares I get killed very easily by an enemy LFV or a launcher, plus I suck at flying them in general (maybe due to the complex controls). Flying along with targeting enemies is outright impossible for me.

Being an infantry is the worst of them. Either I get killed by an enemy even before I spot them, or I get killed by a vehicle which I am unable to destroy before they find and obliterate me. If I lock in to the air targets through my guided launcher, they just simply use their flares and go out of my lock range or they somehow find me and boom, I'm dead the next second. The same can be said for ground targets, the launcher unlocked by default gives only 21 damage to the tanks, providing ample time to the driver to find me and get done. Sneaking up to them and destroying the tank theough C4 also doesn't work as they spot me 90% of the time. Using RPG (the only unguided launcher I have) is also difficult for me as I'm unable to connect shots to the faraway targets due to its slow speed.

In the places where vehicles are not involved and its infantry vs infantry, I'm unable to perform there as well as the enemy is so agile and good at aiming that it's game over for me within 1 or 2 seconds.

What this game encourages is to play for the objective. Well, in order to do that you need to not only capture it, but keep it out of enemies' control as well, but I'm unable to do that as well due to the above reasons.

Is it just my skill issue or anyone else faced this exact same problem? If you did, please provide me help about how you figured it out, so that I can enjoy this game more.

I don't post on reddit that often, so please forgive me for any error.

TLDR- Unable to enjoy this game due to various skill issues regarding vehicles vs vehicles, infantry vs vehicles and infantry vs infantry combat. Low K/D is pulling my self esteem down. If anyone faced this problem and figured it out, help is appreciated.

Bro it’s a toy. You’re playing with toys. Just have fun. Don’t GAF about a KD.

Just dick around, c4 jeep and have fun. It’ll come with time

Unlock SMAW, destroy helicopter, enjoy serotonin boost.

The people still playing know every trick in the book. It's going to take time to 'get good.' It will come, but find something fun and a specific area to focus on til then.

One of the most important skills to learn in any vehicle is when to retreat.

You're likely drying a lot when using a vehicle because you're facing overwhelming odds (multiple engineers, coordinated enemy vehicles).

Try and think to yourself "if I stay here for 10 more seconds is it likely that I'm gonna die?". If so, get outta there and reset, whether that's repairing, activitating countermeasures or sometimes doing a mental reset lol.

Nobody ever says this - go to your settings, turn film grain to 0, motion blur to 0, any settings which affect blur or shake, turn them all off

Are you playing with randoms always on your squad?

If you can find a group of people to squad up with that helps immensely as you can follow them and play more like an organize unit.

If you play the game like a pinball machine bouncing all over the place without a play style or squad then it can be very difficult.

Definitely recommend finding a few individuals to group up with and try and learn from them, plus the revives help.

Happy to add you to my friend list and help beef up that K/D. Send me a dm.

Start learning the maps because positioning is everything in this game, if you do it correctly most of your kills will be shooting people in the back. When shooting at a distance always tap fire. This game has "meta" guns, you can probably find a tier list or something but there are a select few guns that are simply just better. If you're still struggling find other ways to support your team. Play medic and dedicate yourself to reviving people, if you have a good vehicle player on your team dedicate yourself to protecting and repairing them. This game is 13 years old and most of the people playing have mastered everything about it. You're going to have to just keep playing and you will get better with time

If playing as enge.
I think rpg takes out 50% of enemy tank if hit 90 degree on the back. Spot the tank get a cover and shot in the right angle. Get cover again.rince and repeat.

Repair friends helos with repair tool. Many many points. Choose a good pilot to have a good lifetime.

As medic, infantry maps, just revive a lot.many many points. Always follow your team soldiers.

Cap flags always together. never alone. Revivi friends rinse and repeat.

Throw smoke grenades so you revive teammates more protected.

If playing support, always put clamores on your back or doors. Always give ammo to teammates and cap flags.

When in game, press ESC and use the exp bonuses in the bottom right. Also open the boxes that your soldier wins after each level is reached

I'll just note two points that I've found important, the other comments have great info already.
- Learn about bullet spread if you haven't already. The tldr is tap fire 90% of the time, but there are loads of vids that explain the nuances of it.
- Playing more cautiously is almost always part of the answer. It doesn't mean camp, but just adjust your expectations for how quickly you will move around the map, or push the front lines. This is the case whether you're a pilot, tank driver, or infantry, you have to have the mindset that as an individual you are very vulnerable. Be aware of where you are in relation to your team, and try to move with others. It increases your odds of being able to support each other (which the mechanics really encourage), and just overall be more effective. If you watch gameplays on YT from good players or even just in the 2nd seat with a good heli pilot / armour driver, you'll see what I'm getting at. There's this push and pull happening of moving closer to the frontlines for kills, and pulling back to heal / reposition.

But capping flags alone is the best!!

If youve ever done some hobby or job for a long time. Its that sort of familiarity you are contending against. It can take a thousand hours just to become basline proficient in any shooter game if its not something you play for several hours everyday.

For infantry combat, tap the trigger. It allows you to reset your recoil and I've found that the first bullet when pulling the trigger is the most accurate. Rapid taps are going to be your best bet for getting better at shooting in this game IMO. I'm ass at vehicles though, no tips there.

\- skill issue
\- lack of experience
\- lack of tactics

To make it short, practice and get good…
The question you should be asking yourself is it worth it to invest time and effort into a decade old game that is slowly disappearing, or should you play the more recent battlefields that has a much higher population with many more noobs like you.

Battlefield 4 has a massive skill ceiling and people at the bottom are often just farmed by the top players, and since the game is so old there are mostly very experienced players playing it or total beginners like you with little in between.

K/D is not everything but to be honest it is an indication of how good you are doing, and 0,45 is not good…
