I got scammed by EA

aHooli2 · 4 Dec 2023 at 04:08 · permalink

About 5hours ago i bought bad company 2 through ea play, the game appeared in my steam account (but not on my EA account) i have connected to my EA account, downloaded the game and when i opened it and clicked on the server browser the game asked me for a cd key that i do not have. Steam automatically says i need to contact the original key provider (EA Play in this case) and when I contacted them I had very long conversations with multiple EA HELP employees all of whom stated that they cant help me (even after i provided the wanted proof of purchasing the game) and that my only chance is to either contact steam support or refund the game on steam.

TLDR: bought bfbc2, game asked for cd key, EA told me they cant give it to me even though i showed them the receipt. So now i am 4 dollars short and without a playable game

I don’t know what the fix is(if there even is one) but are you aware that you can only play single player?

I thought servers are still running?

Shutting down today afaik. However, many of us have migrated to Project Rome and I’d do the same if I were you. There’s a step by step thread on that.

Everyone said shutting down is on 8th so i bought today to play for a bit before it is gone. I played project rome while i was still a kid with no money long time ago.

Project rome is a mod for bad company 2 that allows to play on private (community maintained) servers and also allows to mod the game.

EA is a stinking pile of shit and those who run it should be tortured.

I did yeah, it exists for yeras if i remember well. And it was a free way to play battlefield for a kid with no credit card hahah

You can buy delisted games via EA play?? I thought it was just a subscription and you lost acess to it after it runs out.

Did you buy it from steam or the EA app? Refunding the steam version and buying it directly from the EA app might give you a valid key.

I went to google, typed in battlefield bad company 2 steam, loged in with browser and there was a green button that said something like subscribe with ea play or buy with ea play. One option was for a month that costed 3.99 and another option was for a year.
Last night when i went to bed the option to buy from browser was gone and said bad company is no longer avalible for purchase on steam

The game got delisted from storefronts in April I think. What you bought seems to be just the EA play subscription and bfbc2 is included in it.

If you subscribed just for bfbc2, download the game and install the Rome client and then try to get a refund. The servers will shutdown this week anyways, so even if you got a working key you wouldn't be able to play if on oficial servers for long.

The reason why i subscribed is just because i saw online that servers are shutting down on 8th. I used to play project rome as a kid with a cracked bad company install. I know project rome is the same thing but with more players, i just feel like i got scammed because they happily took my money but didnt deliver me a working product if that makes sense.

At least EA support guys were really nice, Arjun even told me a joke to cheer me up because there was nothing he could do for me.

Can't the EA support active your subscription on the EA app so you don't need steam? Idk how it works since I only subbed throught xbox gamepass.

I am guessing there simply isnt a way for them to do it because the game technically doesnt exist on any platform anymore. What i think happened is that i bought it last moment before they took it down from all places. The game was nowhere to be found on steam app, ea play or anything, just that subscribe thing on browser version of steam that you had to access with a google search.

The support guys were chatting with me for more then 2h trying to help me but told me there is sadly no way for them to add the game to my ea account even with the proof they asked for (steam game receipts). All they could tell me is to contact steam or refund the game but steam just tells me to fuck off and ask EA because they are the original key providers.
