Tips for keeping helicopters in the air longer?

prost202 · 3 Sep 2026 at 03:18 · permalink

I’m a very good helicopter pilot, but I lack in the attacking department and there’s certain games where I’m in the thing for all of 30 seconds before I get mauled or I’m constantly in spawn trying to repair. Whatre some tips or loadout suggestions for getting more kills in conquest and keeping it up longer? I see some guys in those things just completely dominating the game and i get jealous 🤣

You will get TOWed at some point. Unavoidable currently especially aa tank TOWs. You should never be getting hit with lock ons, flare and go below radar. Dogfighting other helis is a mess. Whoever has higher altitude and element of surprise will win 9/10 times, so always keep track of other helis, don't tunnel vision ground targets.

I’m no pro, but with all due respect if you lack in the attacking department then I wouldn’t consider that a very good pilot.

Hop in to portal code Zukp7 and practice shooting things down with flight assist off. Play once a day and you’ll stay alive noticeably longer in conquest games with the guys that are good

I like being a black hawk taxi driver and i survive for long periods by moving fast & low

LB is the best at surviving because of its agility. You should stay below radar most of the time, with notable exceptions being fighting other helis and vertical strikes when you can't reach behind hard cover. LB should pretty much never be taken by surprise by lock-ons (unless you are aiming for a trade with enemy LB) and should only be killed by losing to enemy LB, RPGs, TOWs.

AH is tougher. I'm starting to feel like the pilot's role focus should be survival through AA deterrence (with lockons) and LB defense (with light rockets+gunner) while leaving ALL the vehicle and infantry to the gunner. Survival still means managing flares and time spent under radar, except an AH under radar is MUCH less effective than the LB as the gunner has terrible LoS.
Furthermore, the larger AH profile and lower speed/agility makes it that much more vulnerable to RPGs and TOWs (which i personally feel shouldn't one shot the AH) when flying below radar.

In both cases a notable mention is given to the fixed AAs. On most maps, they are PRIMARY targets whenever they respawn (even if unoccupied) and can be easily destroyed with a rocket salvo. They are easy to use and can destroy both helis in one burst. LB has higher survivability against them due to smaller frame which leads to more missed shots due to inherent inaccuracy of the AA.

fast & low isn't a thing for an effective AH unfortunately. LB can get away with it

Don’t attack points from the same angles, vary your altitude and choose your battles. The helicopters are powerful, but they’re not invulnerable.

Yes I guess I should’ve said a good flyer, not overall pilot. I’ll check out that zukp7

It’s insanely fun it you get some buddies in there too. Can turn into a silly time pretty quick

Beat way at dodging TOWs I've found, is to fly unpredictably. Don't make it impossible for hour gunners in the transport/attack heli to get shots off on anything but flying in a constant straight line over an area with enemies is a great way to catch an RPG or a TOW

Use freelook while flying, most of the time the first rocket will miss, and you can look around to see where it came from and either take them out, or avoid them.

Don't be too passive at avoiding places, but don't be overly aggressive, flying straight at the enemy front line at the start of a conquest match is not a great idea, play to the helis strengths, LB is great at hit and runs, or clearing off infantry off a point. Attack heli is good for beating on armor and the transport heli can be extremely useful for things like obliteration as a spawn point for the team, and if you have coms with your gunners, you can absolutely melt anything below an IFV

With the ammount of TOWs and how prevalent the RPG is, you WILL get hit. Flying low avoids AA but high avoids RPGs so don't stick to just one area

You can "fly for the gunner", or you can "fly for yourself". There is no in-between.

When flying for the gunner, you rely on them to take out ground threats. Give them good angles. Don't drop them into a situation where you are looking at the left bunch of infantry but gunner is looking at the right bunch of infantry. "Pick at the edges" of the enemy front lines. Eliminate the targets, then move forward. I am not saying to hover. I am saying don't fly over 3 enemy flags.

When flying for yourself, stay low and don't stop moving. It's tempting to climb high to get a good vantage point. Don't. Fly hugging the ground below radar, dump your pods on unsuspecting infantry under you, and be on the other side of the map by the time they respawn.
