I'm tired of new DOOM games

Look, I love DOOM as much as anybody else in this space, but we've been on the Slayer Saga for 10 years now, and I think it's about time a new Quake game went into production. Imagine how cool it would be having a DOOM-2016-style reboot of Quake 1 in that cosmic horror setting, fighting eldritch monsters?

Before The Dark Ages got announced, I seriously thought all the evidence and speculation pointed toward a new Quake game in the works, and I groaned so hard when I realized it was just another DOOM game; though it was a pretty fun game, in my opinion. \\

SpoilerI guess they did throw us a bone with those cosmic horror levels
. I'm thrilled Quake got a new expansion at least, so evidently they still very much care about Quake, and I've heard news that Microsoft is apparently telling Id to work only on DOOM from now on, but man, I'm just exhausted with DOOM.

I worry they blew their load with eternal and dark ages. Both seemed more like quake than doom to me.

I kinda thought Eternal was the most DOOM game they ever made. I don't really think they can make another DOOM game that's more DOOM than Eternal. Seems they thought so too, hence why they had to majorly change the gameplay for Dark Ages. I see what you mean though.

Imagine for a moment. A game came out called unreal. Then Unreal tournament. Then unreal 2. Then a new better Unreal tournament. All better than quake or doom.

Then the company shuts down unreal for Fortnite.

Some of us live harder lives than you. Enjoy your continuous plate of boiled hot dogs. Soon of us walk by nerf fortnite toys and want to cry.

Even Doom 3 is more like Quake than like Doom.

Agreed. Quake needs a reboot. I hope Dawn of the Machine is a sign of good things to come for Quake. I'm not counting on it, but I'm sure as hell hoping.

Ok I’m a huge Unreal fan but Unreal 2 was absolutely not better than Quake or Doom 😂

Nah. I would love TDA Revelations type of content every 6 months easily.

While I can agree to an extent, I think there's still so much they can do with Quake.

At first, I though 2016 was a kind of a dumb game. The glory kills were silly and took me out of the gameplay. Then after a couple years I did it again and it really clicked. I love it now. I tried and tried and tried with eternal but it is just too fucking intense.. or exhausting. I beat 2016 on ultra violence pretty easily but eternal I need to go to kiddie levels and I don't like that feeling.

I haven't even tried out dark ages. I spend so much of my video game time allotment playing the old quake with the steam mods or even the arcane dimensions that I get my shooter fix from that.

You are correct.

I love doom but quake needs some real love. Not like champions, but with the original games.

I think the pacing of the gameplay and the cosmic horror elements of the dark ages was them checking to see if a quake game would be fesible.

At least I hope so.

I think they can do a tie in, as they have been hinting it since wolfenstien.

Except it wasn’t, Quake 2 & 3 have better feeling movement and a better weapon set than any Unreal game.

Quake 1 was has a really weird weapons set though. Quake is really weird to compare in general since it was the first fully 3d Doom clone. (I don’t count decent because I’ve always played it with a joystick and considered it more of an indoor space sim than a FPS.)

Choom I want a true follow up to Doom 3. I loved the slow burn horror ramping up to hectic run and gun by the end. The new games are okay - but don't really scratch that itch.

Just update quake live. Its performance is unsteady on modern hardware and modern networks. If Bethesda wanted to they could do this in a weekend

I just started replaying the Quake games for the first time in probably 15 years. Even the OG is wonderful.

I too hope they decide to bring back the Quake franchise.
