Bhop isnt working

Afeltro · 9 Sep 2026 at 23:40 · permalink

Dont pelt me with tomatoes, OG's i just downloaded Quake Enhanced and remembered about bhopping. I bound jump to both Space and the mouse wheel, but for some reason, after jumping with the wheel, I have to press Space twice to jump again
its like there’s a mandatory "dead" jump in between

Did you bind you bind mwheel to +jump or just jump?

I used the in game settings menu

In Quake you usually hop with the space bar or any other key. Just reapply jump after leaving the ground and you will jump when you next reach it, then repeat.

Bind mouse 2 to +forward so you can hit it in the frame you reach the ground to negate more ground friction.

Also, QEX isn't the best port to do that in. Some community source port will yield better result.

I usually bhop with space only. Works ok in the remaster but there's more ground friction than Quakeworld-like ports so it's not quite as useful.

do you have on your settings auto run? If thats the case, that is the reason why your bhop doesn't work, allways run puts your always at max speed. What i do is that i hold space while i am in air and before I touch the ground i release space, and after that I press and hold space until the next jump, I hope this helps you

I'd say switch to the ironwail source port. Kex quake isn't terrible but there are much better options.

I disabled autorun, but the situation didn't change

Have you tried clearing the buffer in your keyboard before you play a round ?
