Seems a bit late to ask considering my question regards demo that were made 10+years ago, but still it has been bugging me for many years.
Why do people run until the starting line, then backtrack and do the run?
Demos of the top runners here : http://www.defrag.ru/defrag/maps_show.php?name=sjt2

Prejumping. Some maps allow the clock to reset if the starting point is crossed more than once. So basically go out, turn back, cross starting point faster than normal with only cj.

Yep, also called timer reset (tr) within the defrag community. Map authors have the ability to prevent this, but many older maps did not incorporate that preventative measure.

I'm reminded of golem's tr run on Coldrun, sweet jesus.

Yeah, glm is a beast. Not sure if you've seen this scripted run of coldrun -- but it's worth a watch. Author is q3a.
