Has anyone purchased the GOG version Quake 3 Gold? If so does it work well with Windows 8?

I've been really itching to buy it as all the reviews say it's far better than Quake Live, which I would tend to agree with. Due to the fairly hefty price tag though (20 dollars) for a 15 year old game, I've been hesitant to buy it. For anyone out there who has it is it worth it? Also of course if you have it on Windows 8.1 how well does it run? GOG says it's compatible with all versions of Windows from XP onward, but I want to be sure if I'm going to drop 20 bucks on Quake 3.

Works great, but ioquake3 is something you should look into.

Totally agree. It's a modernization of the idtech3 engine.
