Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory

I would assume most of you all are too young to remember this game but this was the best multiplayer game of its time. It was so good on multiple levels. All the classes were super interesting to play and varied in their usage. The maps and objectives were awesome as well. It was also great that there was no battlepass or extensive unlocking process for any of the weapons. Every weapon was available at the start and you actually unlocked additional class buffs based on your xp in the session. This was much better than comparable things like COD's kill streaks as these were permanent as long as you were connected to the session and persisted during map changes.

It was so much better than any of the COD or BF games we have today. I really wish they would make a new sequel or remaster to this game with nothing but updated graphics.

Does anyone remember playing this game? it was so good.

If you thought this was fun you would have loved Unreal Tournament, Tribes, and Rainbow Six (original 90’s not new)

I liked RTCW MP mode as well. ET is obviously the full experience, but both were awesome.

RTCW was the one that started it all, and gave me the love of the game. I was hooked from the first time I played it. When I started playing ET, I fell in love all over again. The maps, the teamwork, the friends - so many great memories.

I played ET from the Fuel Dump Demo release until 2008. I absolutely agree with all you wrote. I want to add the open source character of the game was very important for its superiority, all the mods and maps developed by the community itself. No big company was behind ET and no commercial interests only even more bonded players. Yes its the greatest team multiplayer game to this day.

I loved tribes. Nothing quite captures zipping around and sniping people in the air with the disc launcher.

Me and my friend still laugh at using the panzerfaust and jumping from behind a wall and shooting the ground killing like 5 people in some bunker. We mostly mimic the noise of "FWOOM" then it would explode.

Also just cooking grenades and running into a bunker killing everyone.

I will also say it had one of the most satisfying implementations of a flame thrower ive ever seen in a game.

I agree the mods made it great. I forgot about that.

I played it on 56k modem.
It was terrible.
It was awesome.

ET was the first multiplayer game I ever played. I remember playing on some wacky ass custom maps you find in the server browser, the parkour maps. snipers only servers. I even joined a big clan called FUN. To this day when I think of Germans one of the first things that pops in my mind is “I need a medic!”

I spent countless hours in RTCW MP. specially in a 24/7 Tram map server but in end 2003/early 2004 there was a huge drainage of players from Wolf to ET.

I also switched and then I found again some old Wolf players that later became friends in real life.

OMG did you ever spend time waiting for a spot to open when the server was full? lol. If you had an admin friend you could maybe convince them to kick one of the players who was AFK so you could get in. Ahhh the memories, lol

By far my favorite game of all time. OLTL servers were awesome and the intro to class systems. Plus miss the generation of WW2 FPS games.

Yeah this game was amazing. The focus on objective’s that moved through the map that were beyond capping a point or planting a bomb.

Damn near every single multiplayer shooter since has been a CoD clone to one degree or another. Though we’re a little more diversified now.

Now it’s CoD, Battlefield, DayZ/extraction, Fortnite clones. Killing Floor was a really unique shooter franchise that recently got killed off in its third installment. Studios just don’t try to make good games anymore.
