How to Shoot?

hexx2008 · 10 Sep 2026 at 08:19 · permalink

Lol just getting back into this game after over a decade. Wondering how when I get in gun fights from distance I always die in about 3 shots it seems. Takes me forever to kill guys feel like I get 5 or 6 hit marker noises and they just melt me. Any setting I should use or is there a shooting trainer? Any help would be great!

Use the corner of a crate and strafe around left and right while keeping your cursor on the top corner. It’s head level

Also try the aiming by Raziel I think tutorial-

Haven’t played et since prob 2008 so I could have the name wrong, but I’m pretty sure that’s it.

A lot to unpack for such a simple question. Head shots do a lot more damage than body shots, so if you getting smoked in 3 hits they are head shots for sure. Depending on the mod your playing the hit boxes for the head shots can be smaller or larger. ETPro has the smallest hit boxes, most the pub servers will have larger ones. Also if your playing on XP Save server many of the players will have max experience giving them 50% more health than a player with no XP. Also if your opponent has just used an Adrenalin shot your hits will do less damage. Finally going prone or kneeling will greatly improve your accuracy. Some weapons are also much more accurate than others so should also be considered.

Also mouse settings and fov can have quite an impact. What mouse sensitivity do you use for both windows and et cvar? And which field of view?

Check also your visual settings. Options like bobbing and blood splatter make it a lot more difficult.

To add, figure out utilizing the autoexec.cfg file to program special techniques for use in game.

What sort of techniques?

Aiming by Raziel is a great resource but your autoexec.cfg can enable very subtle and powerful abilities and, well check out https://wolfenstein.fandom.com/wiki/Intro_to_Scripting for how best to create and organize your file and just google around for the many, many commands and operations one can use in it. It can be a bit daunting at first but offers crazy detailed customization.
