Just started playing The New Order. Is Wilhelm Strass a returning character?

Haven't played a Wolfenstein game since the classics. So I'm not up to date on all the lore. But I really get the vibe that he's a retuning character from one of the previous games.

He appeared in RTCW

He is, but he won't be appearing for another one if you have anything to say about it!

And Wolfeinstein 2009.

Basically, while The New Order is mostly a reboot of the franchise, it presumes that Blazko has been going on missions and killing Nazis throughout WW2, making enemies (and a few surviving friends, like Caroline Becker), and so forth, and some of those are based on characters from previous titles in the franchise, both as easter eggs and as a way to make the world feel more fleshed out and have a sense of history.

jesus christ way to spoil the ending

jfmarck · 10 Sep 2026 at 09:36 · permalink

On a 12 year old game where he is clearly the main antagonist?

cmdr_arcade · 10 Sep 2026 at 09:36 · permalink

that would be a valid retort if this was a normal conversation about wolfenstein and not a thread explicitly from someone playing the game for the first time. you literally only came to this thread to spoil the ending

Look mate, I don’t know what to tell you, it’s been a long day, I tried to make a funny post. It’s a FPS about killing nazis, he is a big ol’ nazi. Not really much of a spoiler, I really didn’t spoil anything. Also, did not come to this thread to literally type out the ending. Which I did not do. Just clearing that up. Have a good night champ.

Game about killing Nazis + the boss is a bag bad nazi.

How is that even a spoiler, FFS.

I mean in 2009 he survives so in theory TNO could save him for a sequel

I mean it says Machine Games

So if pervious games are even canon can be confusing

I've always seen the best way to treat the previous games is that they're canon-lite. Aspects of them are canon until disproven or retold/reframed by a MachineGames title. They clearly like aspects of them even if they don't want to use ALL of the story. Hell, considering the end of Youngblood and everything it revealed, they're interested diving into some of the same territory as the more 'wacky' elements of Wolfenstein 2009.
