The one with players. I play Quake 3 with the Area 51 community (https://q3a51.com), the FFA server is very active. And of course as others mentioned there's QW, QL and QC.

if u're new to arena shooters the best choice for you would be Quake Champions. It has a PvE mode - a training mode where you play against bots with other players.
Quake Remaster, horde or co-op with friends
Quake Live - last quake made by id, basically updated Q3A.
No bells and whistles by default. Though you can create custom gamemodes and enable doublejumps, headshots, loadouts and other silliness.
Still reasonably active.
