Anybody else own more TTRPG's than they'll ever actually play?

skwhisper · 10 Sep 2026 at 13:07 · permalink

I may be a bit of a.... collector at this point. I own rulebooks for like a dozen different TTRPG's, including the bigger ones and multiple versions of those, random solo games, indie games, even a big book of 25+ one shot standalone games.

The problem is that I literally don't even have a gaming group to play with. I haven't even ACTUALLY played D&D in over 10 years.

Just bought Slugblaster and Ion Heart at Pax West today and I'm stoked about them (especially Ion Heart as I might actually get to play it. lol) but I already know I won't be playing any group campaigns any time soon.

I posted this somewhere else moments before. Itch.io charity bundles are super cheap and you get hundreds of titles at once.

I’ve got at least 9 shelves of IKEA Billy units of RPGs bought in the last 4 decades and I’ve played maybe 10 of them tops.
Don’t worry about it :)

Yes, though I really try to get to all of them.

As an aside, how was PAX West's vendor hall? Or for that matter the TTRPG events? I've never gone because it l looked way too video game focused.

Collecting is a separate hobby, thats why I try to stream new ones weekly.

So many. My DriveThru library wouldn’t fit in any room in my house.

Hmmm books i'll never actually use.
I may have a few.
Bureau 13:stalking the night fantastic
Beyond the supernatural
All old games I had played but bought the books decades later.
Yeah, more than a few, less than a bookcase

I actually almost ALWAYS spend more time and money in the board game and art hall than I do the video game hall. And I'm a professional video game developer. Lol

That said, I've never been to a dedicated board game con before. But after all this validation on this post... I might need to look into when one will pop up in my area.

At this point I have to force myself not to visit Kickstarter or Backerkit because I’ll end up backing another rpg I’ll never play.
