New Ravenloft D&D TV Show in Development at Netflix

v_alpeev · 10 Sep 2026 at 13:11 · permalink

The show will be written by John August and produced by Academy Award-winning director Alfonso Cuarón. The show also appears to be feeding on the corpse of Shawn Levy's Forgotten Realms TV series, which Netflix confirmed is no longer in development.

I’ll give it a chance at least. I’d love something on the level of Penny Dreadful, but I don’t know if they’d go that far.

Can't wait for it to get canceled after the first season, which will get all sorts of accolades and yet still get canceled.

They just can’t write anything better than Strahd, huh?

Which is unfortunate because Strahd is barely even an original character. He's just legally distinct Dracula.

They had me at Cuarón.

Alfonso Curon is on the project. I'll watch anything he's involved in

I'd be surprised if it even gets a season. Hollywood seems to really suck at actually making a D&D TV show.

Rip to anyone trying to run strahd with new players in a post-tv show environment lol

Jokes aside, I hope they actually lean into the themes of the original and make strahd a real piece of shit. I’m slightly worried they’ll shy away from that stuff and it’ll just be a generic “let’s go kill the bloodsucker” story

And Castlevania basically nailed the “fantasy warriors fighting Dracula” angle on Netflix. Skeptical on if this can deliver anything new.

Strahd is “what if dracula was an incel?” It’s slightly different lol

a 1 season flop, just like the rest of WOTC projects!

Considering the Netflix MTG show been stuck in development Hell since 2019, I would not give my hopes up.

Fun fact linking Strahd to Castlevania. The original box art of Castlevania 2 featured Strahd’s art from the original Curse of Strahd with the head drawn over it. This was without permission and DnD’s lawyers were not happy.
