Is this homebrew class Balanced?

TRX123 · 10 Sep 2026 at 13:11 · permalink

https://docs.google.com/document/d/15trgkh5tN4zph8b0USzcuD\_ziJAxWHezKkPwoYg\_Oro/edit?usp=sharing I made this class, as you can see it is not done yet (not even close) but is it broken, for a non minmaxing group, this is my first homebrew project (I know it isn't smart to start with a class but it is fun), if it isn't balanced please give a good reason and give me a idea to fix it, thanks in advance

We can't really comment on a 1/2 finished class. But "Trained to be as versatile as possible, this class has the possibility to do anything, cast spells, go melee, go ranged, swim, fly, climb, walk, burrow, boost their defense, but drop their reaction speed, and more!" is already ludicriously broken in flavor, atleast. no one character should be able to do everything.

this is just Main Character Syndrome: the Class...

Agreed. Class-based systems are inherently restrictive. That's the point of having classes. If you want this type of flexibility you should look at a skills-based game.

Also the ranger can do everything you say already--do you just not like the Ranger?

It IS tough to say, because the class is half finished, but conceptually, yeah it's absurdly broken. Having one person being able to do EVERYTHING is ridiculous.

To fix it, I’d just scrape this idea and try a very focused class, good at one thing.

TRX123 · 10 Sep 2026 at 13:11 · permalink

partly yes, but I didn't know it can do all this

TRX123 · 10 Sep 2026 at 13:11 · permalink

that is a good point, any tips though?

TRX123 · 10 Sep 2026 at 13:11 · permalink

I agree, but do you have an idea and they can only do 1 at a time etc.

TRX123 · 10 Sep 2026 at 13:11 · permalink

with help of subclasses, and always worse then everything for that specific class, except in being versatile

I don’t understand what this class’s theme or gimmick is. They can just…do anything.

Please don’t delete this, because I’m working on a class very similar to this and I want some notes!

See what current options offer
See what is lacking, add as an alternative option.
This option should be a sidegrade: if there’s no reason to ever pick other things (aka this new option is strongly better at every axes), it means is really bad

This is just the first step. After it still needs to be easy to understand and fun (polishing). But without the first part, it does not have a reason to exist

Ya forget balance. This class lacks flavor.

Not gonna lie, this looks terribly unbalanced unless heavy restrictions are in place.

Ever heard of the phrase "Jack of all trades, master of none?" If you want to make a Red Mage type of character, do so, but limit it so it never, ever, outclasses a specialist. You should feel versatile, but weak compared to any focused class.

Then you need to play test the fuck out of it or at bare minimum run Monte Carlo tests.
