People Prefer Old Battlefield was simply happier back then

ArcadotIreland113 · 30 Jul 2026 at 19:16 · permalink

I was born in 2002, and started to play gameloft games in 2010, then I moved to XBOX in 2019, finally made it to my personal PC in 2021. At the other day I realized I never played BF3 BF4 or BadCompany.
Also I noticed tons of people are comparing BF6 to BF3 or BF4 eta. I soon realize, those players that are not happy with BF6 are probably near 30 years old, even 35.
With all that guess, I would take a rational guess that: players are not hating on BF6 the game itself, they are just unhappy now, and they are happier back then.
Our PC is getting better, our living condition is getting better, we can afford more and more stuff that we can't even reach as a children. There is no way the new game is not good, otherwise it simply won't sell.
So for the haters, you should take a moment to think about the things you are missing when you become an adult, because we are having real fun in this game, period.

Ah I see your misunderstanding, the people you are appealing to are not adults in a mature sense, sure they may legally be classed as an adult, but emotionally these types are very much still children.

I was 25 in 2002, and have played every Battlefield game. You have to have been there from the beginning to see the downfall. It started as soon as EA and DICE chased that console money. Peak Battlefield and Peak DICE will always be BF2/2142

I've been there since the beginning and I preferred 1942 and 2142 to 2, apart from Special Forces expansion pack, that was pretty cool.
As for modern battlefield, it's improved when it comes to QOL additions and gunplay until 2042/BF6 moved full steam ahead into twitch gunplay mechanics.
In BF2 the gunplay was so bad both players would often run out of bullets and then engage in a knife fight to the death!

But it was fun two guys running around trying to stab each other. This title misses that and focus on super speed shooting with laser beams to get as many kills as possible in shortest space of time.
BF2/3/4 ,BC2 even BFH were fun as more team/squad focus fun

32 here, have you ever considered that the game just isnt good? the maps are trash, guns feel ♥♥♥♥ to use sound terrible. sound mixing is garbage i can hear teammate scream 100m away but i cant hear a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tank rolling behind me 15m away. visibillty is atrocious. vehicles are too strong / at too weak. movement is insufferable. sniping completely not possible. the very map flow is terrible, 95% of my deaths are from behind. i spawn in hq and i gotta look behind me if enemy is camping.
just because you got hyped up by your idols on twitch doesnt mean the game is any good. its a disappointment. slightly worse than bf2042 atm. tbh its not just gaming. all media is getting ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, by this rate ill just go offline and idk touch grass i guess

Nope, older games (before 5) are just better in every way.

If Battlefield 4 was so great, why not people just go back to it? Just leave... Everybody will be happier. They get the game they wanted, we get less whining. It's a win-win for all of us.

The playerbase changed and this game did too. From my perspective to the worsed. It's now all about momentum and action instead of tactics and teamplay.

Battlefield 2, Bad Company and Bad Company 2 were peak in MHO. Back in BF2 times you had actually doing some "work" getting badges and stuff and really achieved something after hundreds of hours. I really miss that.

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of the complaints that us players that played previous battlefields have. So let me try to explain what has changed and why some of us are not happy with Battlefield and it's current direction.
1. BFBC2 and BF4 were peak Battlefield IMO. BFBC2 introduced environmental destruction on a whole new level you could almost literally completely reduce the entire map to rubble. There has not been a Battlefield since that has had that level of destruction. it made for interesting games for sure.
2. Ping, lag compensation and aim assist. These things have slowly been introduced and Battlefield to their somewhat credit has not turned these things up to CoD or Halo levels of bullshittery but it really affects how the game is played and feels. No one likes feeling like they got aimbotted or that they shoot first and die first. You can see examples of this with lobbies that have players with 120+ ping that completely screw everyone else and its called ping abusing but because lag compensation exists to attempt to make things "fair" it ends up favoring high ping players.
3. Differences in recoil and cone of fire/weapon bloom between controllers and M&K players. To be fair the 25% increased recoil on a mouse isn't bad to manage. The cone of fire/weapon bloom difference is complete BS and not something you can control with any consistency with a mouse. This makes losing gun fights that you should win extremely frustrating.
4. The new step damage for weapons when BF4/BFBC2 has sloped weapon damage just makes some gunfights feel terrible.
5. Player skins and weapon skins having super bright colors when every other BF had either period correct (for the most part) skins and camo's or darker/environmentally appropriate colors and patterns.
My conclusion is that they have strayed away from what Battlefield is/was. It is not a bad thing to try new stuff and create new experiences to attract more players. It just seems like corporate greed for more players now, more micro transactions and higher profits is pushing decisions away from what the core of Battlefield was.
just my $.02 ymmv

Badmins ruined bf4! If you kill them they ban you! The loss of offical servers was the downfall of bf4 or I and many other would have stayed or even want to go back.

Every single bf since BF1 is worse, I do not even have to try convince other people I suppose.
IDK how how your point is valid? Quality of BF series just collapsed since then. We may be 30/40/50 and we just remember something like damn QUALITY.
It's like compare newer cars, yes more shiny, yes it is faster, yes it has apple car play and more sensors, and it is good but quality of interior is just poor and plastic.

Translation: I love this game but I get butthurt whenever someone brings up issues with the game.

BF Bad Company 2 and BF 3 were peak for me once BF Hardline came out it all went downhill
