EA, please update your proprietary anti-cheat to support the Linux Kernel. EAC worked perfectly fine, but you went and changed it to the new EA Anti-cheat, which has left the game unplayable for Linux gamers for almost a year now.
The irony of it all, is that it's Windows gamers who buy and use cheats; and those cheaters probably wouldn't even know how to use Linux to begin with.

I have it on windows but would like to run it on linux also. Surely they can have anti-cheat feature on a linux supporting version?

Just because EAC is working for other games doesn't mean that this game was working on Linux. And according to protondb it never did.
Let's just have our facts straight.
It would be nice if this game work on Linux.

The game literally worked on Desktop Linux and Steam Deck in 2022, and ProtonDB history even reflects this (you should learn how to look at more than the first, most recent page of reports). You can even find old gameplay videos on YT from before they switch from Linux kernel-supported version of EAC, to the proprietary anti-cheat.

Will the campaign run on the deck? Forget multiplayer.

2042 doesn't have a campaign, lol. It's MP only like the pre-FrostBite entries (1942/Vietnam/BF2/2142).

Also, as an update to this topic; EA has just
announced
[steamdeckhq.com]
that they are retroactively going to be shoving their new proprietary anti-cheat into
Battlefield 1
and
Battlefield V
, breaking all Linux compatibility going forward, which affects everyone currently playing those older titles on desktop Linux and Steam Deck right now! This update takes affect on April 3, 2024. They've already updated
Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2
, which can now no longer be played on Linux either.
EA has found yet another way to stay on top as the most anti-consumer company in the gaming industry.

Ironically enough, it's even more complicated to cheat on linux than on windows because the cheat needs to be runned in the same working environment as the game runs in. it's possible to do, but it's really complicated to make it work. so yeah, just like Bungie, EA assumed something and took a decision without doing some researches or tests before hand.
