Are you able to play BC2 Rush only and do people still play it?

The different modes are on rotation. They usually stay for like a week and than switch to other mode. I would love to have BFBC2 as permanent mode too. But instead we have forced regions on forced maps with forced matchmaking on 128 slot servers with a playerbase lower than 1.5k on Steam. (the blackscreen issue comes on top - YAY) Jepp EA/Dice are that fkcing ignorant/stupid.

if wanting permanent, you can setup an official dedicated BF2042 server through portal, even to set the BC2-only era with BC2 chars only, too, and all FOR FREE:

but be aware, if you modify game settings too heavy, XP gain is very limited or even disabled. the XP stages are:
FULL XP
MODERATE XP
LIMITED XP
i miss the good old classic ARICA HARBOR RUSH days, these were golden, and completely implemented into BF2042, rush mode even official at some BF2042 events

Damn i didnt know how good that portal configurator is. U can define EVERYTHING.
Played this for 2 years now an didnt know this. They really failed to communicate this portal thing properly. I wish i knew this sooner. Problem is u need the get the server filled up with players, which is difficult with that low playerbase
