I know why this game is now on Steam

Because there will be a new ET. I seen that they renewed some sort of licensing / some legal documents and filed it a year or so ago.
Wouldn't that be a nice present for all the struggling we've all experienced over the last 2 years?
*cough* yes, Splash Damage *cough*

It would be amazing to have a new Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory in the 'Unreal 4' engine to enjoy, especially if we got the modding tools with it too, the game would be huge again.
Do you have any links to information about this license renewall you mentioned?

hmm, that licencing thing probably happened when they added ET to Bethesda launcher, which was in 2021. The Steam ET client is also a build from July 2021. ;)

bethesda decided to shut down their launcher and move their stuff to steam

Wouldn't be surprised if they make a new Wolfenstein Multiplayer game that comes after or with the release of Wolfenstein III, based on content/assets of the current Wolfenstein games.

expect a garbage with lootboxes, 100 writings that appear on the screen when killing enemies, cumbersome animations even to jump a 10 cm wall, inability to host your own server, admin entering private games to investigate the chats, absurdity for sale in the form of NTF and who knows what else.

The way some modern games are today it wouldn't surprise me. However, if Bethesda licence SplashDamage to remake it the game would have none of that crap.
They'd stay faithful to the original gameplay design and release the classic, objective-based, teamplay World War 2 FPS game we all love to this day. As a result of this the game would be a financial success too.
We can but hope :) .
