I used to play this back in the day on a Pentium 4 and a MX440, but playing on modern hardware my FPS will be 90 one minute, then drop to like 27. What's the deal with that?

alternativly you could add it to your start parameter like

I set that in the start parameter and it still has issues.
Running default settings with a 5600x and 3080.

I have it set to 1024x768.

do you know your desktop resolution, ET dosnt support many wide screen formats
if you use 1920x1080
add to your start parameter
+set r_customwidth 1920
+set r_customheight 1080
+set r_mode -1

Just tried that but with 2560x1440 which is my native res. That works, but I'm still getting drops down to 24fps. I'm on a 170hz monitor.

I just followed this guide to use ET Legacy. Fixed all of my issues.
