You mean the steam demo? I played it some months ago with 3 friends and we still around here, so I would say no.
You cant have a key for steam, you have to buy a retail copy, I bought mine for around 4€, shipping included in amazon spain (used copy, ask to the seller if the box includes the manual before buy, there is the key).

No, you can use it to play online, no matter someone used it in the past, the only thing you can do with steam is add it as a no steam game so you can use the overlay.
