Trying to learn a map with people who already know it has shown me a problem: they use callouts to explain the callouts.

“Go past the thing near the other thing” is not information if both things have nicknames you have never heard. I do not need somebody to stop the whole game for me, but a landmark and a direction would help more than repeating the same unfamiliar word louder.

If you are teaching someone, what actually works? And if you are the new person, how much asking feels reasonable before you start worrying you are annoying everyone?

There is a point where people should do a little preparation themselves. It is frustrating to explain the same place every round.

There is also a difference between forgetting and never having been shown. A map diagram does not always match what the room looks like from floor level.

I am happy to prepare. I had a diagram open. The people I was with were using different names for two of the spots. That is what finally broke my brain.

Okay, that is different. Conflicting names are on the group, not you.

We pick a route, walk it once, then ask the new player to lead us back. You discover the confusing bit immediately.

Also say which side you are looking from. “Left” is doing a lot of damage in our voice chat.

I like asking between rounds. If I ask mid-fight, I forget the answer while trying not to die.

Going to ask for a walk-through and write the group names on my own copy. Glad this did not turn into “have you tried being less new”.
