I distincly remember watching a video a few years back telling the history of quake tournaments and such, starting with Red Anihilation in 1997. I wanted to rewatch that but can't find it anymore on youtube. I might be misremembering, but I think that video also showed a few clips of doom deathmatch, and something about players using sound cues to locate the adversary in duels.
