There's a lot of people who don't understand why the SBMM discussion is still a thing and why people rather not have it. This is why

There is no way in the hell I should be the only above average player on my team and the enemy team not only has multiple above average players on it, but also a fucking cheater. This was in a mercenary moshpit, so there weren't any squads.

So not only did I have to try my ass off against multiple above average players, I also had to hold my own against a cheater.

I ended the game with 40+ kills and nobody else on my team had more than 20. I also managed to somehow put streaks up. Yet we obviously still lost because the other team had a cheater and more good players/sweats.

The mode was TDM btw, so don't come with the "ackshually getting a bunch of kills doesn't help win the game" excuse.

How is it that in a mercenary playlist, a lobby can be set up to where one team basically has a cakewalk of a match and the other team has to move the heavens to even have a chance of keeping up? It's bullshit and it happens far too often to be a coincidence or random.

Yes, it's fun that I still got a lot of kills and put up streaks. But it's not fun playing a game that's a metaphor for that one Linkin Park song.

You had to “try your ass off”. See, the only people that complain about SBMM are the tryhards.

Just chill and have fun man, it’s ok you don’t have to win all the time.

Yeah especially when the matchmaking system will gift you easier lobbies because it thinks you got worse by getting your ass kicked by people who are better than you

Precisely. He is in those competitive lobbies because he won against the lower competitive lobbies! These guys complaining always have good win ratios and kill ratios. Literally just want to play against little kids and shit lol.

Sbmm is wack because it’s a crap and shoot on how the connection will be. Lagging around isn’t fun. It limits the pool of players you actually play with. I’d rather open the pool of players for better connections and have a shitty game than play against the same people , having worse connections, and have a good game. Ranked is the exception because it’s ranked, it should be SBMM. In regular pubs it is immensely more cohesive for the community as a whole to have connection to the only priority for match making.

It's a guilty pleasure to read posts where people don't understand SBMM. If anything you just described the opposite. But unless you have some secret database all you know is your teammates had a bad game. That's it. Maybe the "cheater" doesn't always use them? To mess with algorithms?

As an Iridescent player I’ll tell you why SBMM needs to exist.. it needs to exist to attract new players and keep casuals. If you were new to CoD and got matched up against a high skill player on a regular basis then it wouldn’t be a fun experience for you.. Devs know that high skill players will play the game regardless so they focus on making the experience for newer or casual players better instead of satisfying the relatively low number of high skill players by removing SBMM.

“Just chill and have fun” is such a Chud argument. When you have a skill based game, where your enjoyment is tied to your performance and skill, you want to play good. One of the progression indicators is your own skill, and seeing how good you are against random people. When it’s curated to put you against your skill level every time, you don’t have a sense of skill, just frustration and the feeling that you have to perform at the top of your skill level every match

SBMM attempts to balance out matches instead of letting the player enjoy random matches with all skill level of players. COD is a casual game no matter how serious people try to take it. Ranked is for those players who want to prove they are better with aim assist than others which is why SBMM makes sense there. I rank in the top 0% of players and SBMM puts me in a lot of matches with cheaters because the system thinks they are skilled players. I stopped playing CODs after MW19 because of SBMM and EOMM trying to dictate how players should be having fun

Because it’s not fun whatsoever. I’m sick of people here acting like they have some morality when it comes to bad players. I liked when it was connection-based because matches were mixed; you got stomped/stomp, or people on your level. It’s boring being stuck in a lobby that’s exactly your skill level. You don’t improve, you just get stuck. Everyone was a shit player at some time, and we all improved. And regardless of that, people purposely throw their KD for easy lobbies. I watched a guy do it in Cold War.

I truly believe SBMM wouldn't be an issue if CoD had a ranking system. And I don't mean like League Play where it's the competitive rule set. Yes, they should still have that for the people who want to play competitive, but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about normal-ass CoD, but you have a visible rank, just like CS, Valorant, Siege, or literally any other FPS; CoD is one of the only shooter games that doesn't have real ranked play, and I don't understand why.

I mean, let's be honest they already do this, but they hide the "ranks" and call it SBMM... and I think that's the real issue. Just make it visible and let people know what skill level they're playing at. People who want to grind it to get to the top rank can do that, and the people who want to be protected from "the sweats" can play within their own rank.

Then, have a "casual" mode that's just classic CoD matchmaking for those who want that experience. Problem solved.

I play a bunch of other shooters and they all do this, and _no one_ bitches about this stuff in those games.
