The item economy is so bad that only a clean slate would fix it. Obviously you would keep the item servers for tf2 online so nobody loses anything.

they wouldnt do that because itd crash the economy and would have a ripple effect on cs and dota. when they updated CS from GO to 2 they kept the inventory as well.

I think the economy is fine. Go into a trade server talk to some people trade some things have a good time what more could I need. I like there is allways an item I forgot about or havnt seen in awhile because there is alot.

i havent but other people have and valve rake in money from people buying keys and selling stuff on the steam market. if they suddenly make it so that those items are essentially worthless because theyre on a game that no one plays because a new version is out then thatll mean less money for valve because people realise its all temporary.
