Xbox Consoles are enough trouble, so it would be nice if they eased the pressure a little and allowed “next gen” games to be ran from usb devices. Especially ones that are upgrades from old gen without major upgrades that make the faster SSD necessary – like the recent Fallout 4. The prices of current extension cards are high and since Xbox consoles are claimed to be on their death beds, chances are that production of these memory extension will diminish (due to lack of large market) and prices will go up. So, it would be beneficial for game sales if option for USB install would be option – even if limited to “old gen” upgrades.

If it's "XboxGen9Aware", an upgrade from last gen, it can run on external storage.

If it's native next-gen, USB is just too slow. Developers wouldn't have tested against it at all.

Thanks. Good to know about XboxGen9Aware. Loosing my mind about hard drive storage management as right now "economically best" option seems to be buying another Series X to get more storage space (controller+included game offset the price).

Not going to happen. It's a limitation of the tech.

This is kinda like saying that loading Blu-rays from a DVD drive needs to happen, or running Xbox Series X games on an Xbox 360 needs to happen.

I know storage can be a problem, but a temporary solution is to not need to worry about having all your games installed. Especially if they are digital. Pick your top ten games you wanna play, install on the internal and you're good to go. Delete the others and you can add them at a later date.

You can easily go into "my games" full around the settings and all your purchased digital games are there. An even easier management is to store all games on a cheap but large external hard drive and just transfer your top games again to the internal and back again. But by and large, the biggest thing to get rid of is the mental need to have all your games installed. Digital games are tied to your account. So no need to worry about deleting and such.

Still kind of pain. However my internet connection is fast enough so that it takes same or less time to install game from scratch than move it to main drive from external Samsung t7.

If you've got half decent internet then extra storage either cards or external drives is just the height of laziness. Like buying new socks because you won't do any laundry/

It about convenience, not laziness. If I want to play Forza Horizon 4 with my friend who dosen't have 5, I would rather swap expansion card than uninstall something and re-installing the game.

The economically best is to just delete games you aren’t playing… there’s no way you are using the entire 1 TB at once. If internet speeds or data caps are an issue just offload games to a cheap external and transfer back and forth as needed.

It's crazy that they didn't make the SSD swappable.

But you're the one moaning about this?

Just have a core set of games you play regularly installed and then manage the others. Easy using the app too.
