Tie fighter has already been "remastered" by fans for free. I recommend looking up XWAUA where they have done a full upgrade on the visuals, and even gone a step further and not only is there an upgraded original, they also have been working on completely new missions for it.

It's also worth checking XWVM which is another fan project that has done an amazing job of updating the graphics for x-wing.

Wait for a recompilation. Only hope.
