Why do I lie in bed scrolling my phone even when I'm exhausted and know I'll regret it tomorrow?

like, my eyes are literally closing, I'm yawning, I know I have to wake up early tomorrow... but I just keep scrolling. tiktok, ig, reddit for what?? I'm not even enjoying it anymore. is this considered some kind addiction or just self-sabotage or something?

Replace ”scrolling my phone” with ”drinking a handle” and I don’t think you’d be searching for an answer.

I do this too and I think it’s a break from real life and all the responsibilities during day. I just want to switch off before sleep and before the rat race continues 😩

It’s like a gambling addiction, where your brain looks for little dopamine hits and each little scroll feels like just a harmless second, but they all add up. It’s hard to make the choice where to stop when the next thing might be the payoff.

It’s addiction. Probably not serious life changing addiction. But addiction, nevertheless. If I was in your shoes and truly wanted to change; I’d start by deleting one social media app. See how that goes, maybe delete another in a month. I know this one is hard for everyone these days (including me) but try reading a novel.

i'll say it's a habit. try to do some stretching before bedtime. it'll relax ur muscles and body.

screens in general will keep you awake. At least on my case, any other type of media without a screen (books mostly) they will take me out stone cold, barely holding grip of the book. Don't think how tired I could ever be, if I decide to stick a screen on my face while on bed, I could probably go all night with no sleep (then assume the consequences the next day lol). Blocking any short form of media ish (reddit, shorts, TikTok, anything honestly that takes <5min to consume) might help, idk.

If it's detrimental to your life, it's an addiction, not just a habit. So, do with that as you will, good luck

tbh i think it's just the path of least resistance, like your brain knows sleep is coming so it grabs whatever stimulation it can find first. saw someone call it revenge bedtime procrastination in another thread and that actually tracked for me.

Sometimes I wonder if it's subconsciously the want to do something that really feels like your choice.
