(PS5 pro, ps portal and PC player here)

I’ve been trying to find a game that scratches a very specific itch.

I really like games where you can get weapons with noticeable visual effects – glowing blades, fire, lightning, auras, particles etc. New World is probably the best example I can think of. I loved putting gems on weapons and actually seeing the effect on them.

I’d also like the weapon to feel like my weapon, if that makes sense. Something I can upgrade or work towards and keep for a while, instead of finding a cool sword and replacing it with a slightly better one 30 minutes later. And not something I transmorg. That makes every weapon look like something else.

I’m fine with RPGs, action RPGs, JRPGs, MMOs etc, although I’d prefer something that actually has an ending or at least a point where I can feel “done”.

The main things I don’t want are isometric/top-down games like Diablo or PoE, and I’m not really looking for Soulslikes either.
Third person would be ideal since half the point is actually being able to see the weapon I’m using lol.

Any suggestions?

What about Jedi Fallen Order and/or Jedi Survivor.

They do have some souls-lite elements, and i onwo you said no soulslikes, but is not a fully on soulslike really.

I don't play it myself but whenever I walk into my brother's room and hes playing Warframe hes got all sorts of cool glowing shit on. Shit, half the characters in the game look like they're made of cool glowing shit.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth could be a good choice, the weapons look cool and have flashy effects, and you can keep upgrading the ones you like instead of replacing them all the time It’s also third-person and has a full story you can finish

Guild Wars 2, you can transmog weapons, armor, plenty of skins to choose from. Some dyes make you super bright

Thank you all for the suggestions! Finished Fallen order about a month ago, and it seems like I have to give Jedi survivor go! Googled the mlgs, and it looks sick! But need advice on how to enjoy a soulslike game..

Im a mid thirties dad, so I don’t want to die 40 times just to understand the rotation to kill something. If I can find the right game, with the right weapon I shouldn’t have to dodge, roll, dodge, attack 150 times😅
