Final Fantasty 14 and the ascians. After the second expansion when the real story began, I genuinely felt bad when I killed one of them. They are an ancient race that want to genocide multiple worlds in hope to power up their evil god enough to bring everyone back to life.
Combine that with absolutely incredible fights and cutscenes and music and graphics... they are just unforgettable
