Idk maybe I should just stick to what games offer... so I have a 5080. I usually use dlaa, but when a game offers path tracing I need to use dlss.

I always see all this talk about transformers and presets and dlss 4 and 4.5 and so on. How do i actually use them?

With AMD FSR it just tells you in game menu.

I just want pragmata to run better at 4k max path tracing. Dlss performance with 2x looks... not worth the squeeze for path trace.

How do you determine which DLSS presets to use in the Nvidia app? : r/nvidia

you go to the nvidia app, choose the specific game and override the preset there, it's trial and error mostly on what you like - most people are fine with just letting the app use reccomended

In nvidia app dlss section you can set for presets, usually the latest one is alright. I would also recommend toggling DSR Factor On so you can downscale from higher resolution then your monitor. Then in game you pick the resolution, upscaling and frame gen that suits you. Im sorry but this isn't straightforward nowadays. You could just youtube the game settings for your card.

dlss is basically upscaling, renders the game at a lower res then uses ai to make it look sharper so you get more frames. the whole transformer vs cnn thing is about the ai model doing the upscaling, transformer is the newer one and generally looks cleaner

if you wanna mess with presets you can use the nvidia app or something like nvidia profile inspector to force a specific model, but a lot of games just pick whatever they're set to by default. dlaa is just dlss but at native res for anti-aliasing, so you're already using the tech in a way

Since the DLSS 4.5 came out, namely preset M, you don't really need to use DLAA anymore, it'll look same but give you a bit better performance.

It's ai upscaling, uses ai to guess at what the frames your GPU can't render look like

I never use it I'll run native over dlss every single time even if I have to drop resolution down to 1080p

Personally I use DLSS Swapper to pull the latest DLL file for the game. The latest is 310.9. Games often have outdated files and for best performance and visual quality I like to make sure it's manually swapped. You can also over ride presets there too.

For DLSS presets it depends on the game.

Starfield for example doesn't like using the latest Presets M or L. It runs out of Vram when going through menus. So I make sure to override and select Preset K.

Most other games I use Preset M. It uses the new model and isn't as taxing as Preset L. Although I have a 5080 so I can use either without issue.

For Frame Generation I override the latest model Preset B.

For Ray Reconstruction you definitely want to use Preset F.

So for a recent update like dlss 4.5 I would need the developer to enable and update their game or tinker with control panel settings?
