For context i have played battlefield 1 and i found it to be amazing, havent given much thought to 2042 and had the impression it was a steaming pile of crap..but i saw it was on sale for quite cheap and i have seen clips in the past, particularly of sniping, which is what interests me most in the game i would say, specifically because the maps seem to be huge and full of spaces to occupy for that matter! Moreover i love the HUD and the kill indicators and all, i find them aesthetically pleasing.

All things considered though, i dont know much else about the game and im looking to hear some thoughts about what i should expect and maybe some tips? :)

You're going to gear a lot about how the game sucks because it released in bad shape. But they patched and reworked it over the years and it's a fun, truly playable experience now. I enjoy it a lot. Each operative has unique gadgets so you can tailor your gameplay to what you like. It can be loads of fun. Of course, there are fewer players now because of BF6, but you can still get full games with bots mixed in. Good luck and have fun.

If I'm being fair to the game, it has come a long way since release. It runs better, your shots actually register against opponents, the sandbox has a lot more to offer with all the updates it got, and the maps are definitely improved from what they once were. Definitely try to go in with an open mind, as you may find yourself liking it a lot.

There are a few things I'd note, though, and I'm going to try and put my bias aside here.

1. The game simply is not as polished as other titles in the franchise, especially Battlefield 1, even after all the updates. It's come a long way, but for me - running on an RTX 3080, 64gb RAM, i7-14700k - I still run into occasional stuttering problems and the graphics can be a bit more grainy in contrast to BF1, which still looks and runs perfectly for me. There's also other problems, such as being completely unable to play as Russia in any solo/co-op Conquest or Breakthrough lobbies, which can make grinding upgrades for Russian vehicles an absolute pain in the ass compared to the US (this is a known bug that's been around for a long time, I wouldn't count on it getting fixed), or the camera glitching when you enter helis/planes.

2. Unlike in both BF1 and BF6, 2042 does not have the sweet spot mechanic for snipers. This can be pretty jarring if you're used to how snipers feel in either of those games, as it goes from general upper-body to head being a one-shot to know absolutely demanding you hit headshots. You can argue that's how it should be - and you're probably right - but regardless, it's worth noting.

3. There is no campaign, the Hazard Zone extraction/BR mode was DOA within the first week of launch, and Portal - while it has potential - is ultimately a bot farm most of the time that can be hard to find any real matches in. Paired with no campaign, this means that almost your entire experience with the game will be played in the core gamemodes you see on the front page when you log in, for better or worse - hopefully, like others, you do enjoy them.

4. Last thing - the specialists. There's no getting around the fact that they play completely differently to any of the class systems in the games before. Maybe you'll enjoy them, maybe you won't, but either way do not expect them to play the way you're used to.

It's Battlefield, aside from the guns they're all the same.

Been playing less than a week I love it. If I had a dedicated squad/could find a lobby thats not all bots it would be alot better.

It's an amazing game. You will be harassed and told to hate the game. Have fun!

A better time than playing BF6. Unless you like riding motor bikes off Red Bull ramps in a Battle Royale then you might be fucked.

Had the most fun playing engineer, played a bit recently and it came as a shock that you can use smokes as engi, i forgot it used to be a thing lol. If you want to try something fun use crawford with rpg/ anti material sniper and deagle (almost like a primary weapon).

An experience generally much better than anything Call of Duty has offered for almost a decade now.

An average battlefield game is STILL way better than what most of the game industry offers players

Most people you hear hating on the game played it at launch. It's a lot better now. That being said, the game is kind of dead now that BF6 is out. You can still find matches but not many people play it anymore.
