well, honestly, BC2 (despite some obvious flaws) made one thing right: maps and destruction worked amazingly great together.

Because of that everything else - general gameplay of shooting enemies - worked as well (at least for me).

the game was genuinely fun to play around destruction, and that made rush (my beloved game type) so memorable.

Also classes were balanced (mostly), and every class was usable most of the times.

Map size and layouts. Maps felt optimized for Rush in BC2 and that made it a god-like mode to play. Also the classes feel good together we thbthe weapon customization options.

Plus some things that are now standard in BF, but were new back then. Like destruction and the hardcore mode.

And BC2 had the best DLC out of the entire franchise. bC2 Vietnam is the fucking GOAT DLC.

And it had good graphics for the time of its release. BC2 and BF3 both made massive jumps in terms of graphics and that certainly helped the games.

Also from the perspective of someone who plays a lot of flight sims and played BF3 ESL as pilot for a year: lack of planes planes was perfect in BC2. Obviously the small maps were designed with that in mind. But flying and fighting helicopters in BC2 feels so fucking good. They can be a fucking menace if your team doesn't take them down and dominate the match, but at the same time they are easier to handle than jets that can mostly just go unchallenged if they want to. Idk, I loved the helicopter gameplay in BC2.

Biggest flaw is often cited as the lack of strafing while sprinting, which always takes some time to get used to when going back to the game. Which is true.

Every gun was overkill. Makes the game less of a learning curve and more of enjoyablity.

Nostalgia and being 15 years younger. The only thing I miss from BC2 is server browser, hardcore being an official playlist and explosives dealing actual damage

Weighty feeling of gunplay and vehicles, punchy and crispy sound design (that reverb man), map design and destruction, simplicity, loved the graphics. That Vietnam DLC felt like a gift from heavens
It’s not just a game but a sensory experience for me.

I loved this so much! I also argue it's self balancing. Yes it's one shot kill, but you can't aim down sight, and when you do tighten your cross hair, it covers a lot of your target so you are kinda firing blind. Especially targets further out. So if I got beamed with a slug from across the map, I didn't hate, I respected it because I know that's a hard shot

Felt so good when you unlocked things in your classes. The squad and playing with friends working together as a team to win. I remember when the beta came out for PS3. I was a big call of duty player this changed my whole idea on FPS. I ran to Walmart to buy the game and they said this game is M for mature. I asked a random lady to buy the game for me, I was short like 4 bucks and she took care of it for me.

I agree. Also the slower pace of the game really made it feel so good.
Haha I just got a flashback of the dart gun you could also use on Infantry, so all rocket launchers could lock on that person from the whole map. Trolling snipers with that was king!

Destruction, gun play, movement and maps. And the graphics are still amazing. And the sound - wow. Exemplary campaign too ;-)

A big thing for me I think is that vehicles didn’t auto repair at all. If your tank or helicopter got fucked up you had to leave to repair and come back, making you vulnerable and requiring team work to do it safely.

Also the limited weapon selection for infantry made it easier for them to balance and the weapons more memorable overall,

Couple of stuff i think
* The destruction is by far the best destruction system they had so far

* the maps are amazing, like it honestly feels like they hand crafted for rush gameplay and iterated again and again until they got it right

* something about the more slow paced movement (the lack of strafing is horrible) im talking more about the fact that you cant slide, jump, do 360 noscope while you take a piss (unlike in bf6 for example)

* I believe they were generally more focused on a gameplay that requires team cooperation, each class had a unique identity, sniping is fun as hell, medic is fun as hell!! Ive never had any fun playing an lmg dude in any fps games, in bad comapny its somehow fun

In short, i really think that back then they had way more time to iterate, to play around and see what is fun, not every feature was born to make $$$
They owned the fact that they are battlefield, different from cod and other fps shooters, so they battlefield secret sauce stayed pure, just like in bf2

That wasn’t short after all
And it’s not nostalgia talking here (maybe a little) but i still play these days

For me just the destruction. I loved how a map started and by the end there was nothing left. Plenty of memories hiding in rubble capping flags
