Before you call me a misogynist, hear me out. I am just wondering why EA felt the need to include women soldiers in a game set in WW2, when historically there werent any, at all. The only women that actually fought might have been rebels in france, italy and germany, but thats it. I don't agree with the decision but I would love to hear some opinions :)

In today's climate someone was bound to complain whatever they did.

Include women \- historicaly purists get angry

Don't include women \- feminists get angry

So it's a "pick you battle" kind of deal. And it's a lot easier to argue fudging the historical accuracy "for the sake of entertainment".

It's not historically accurate, but playing as a woman in World War II in the thick of combat sounds kind of cool, and it gives me hope for the in-depth customisation we will have in Battlefield 5. As to why they're included in the game? I think the answer is, why not? It's a video game, anything can go down.

You clearly have not heard very much about the eastern front. The red army had quite the amount of female soldiers. The british army on the other hand did not.

Women fighting in ww2 is historically accurate, but none the less BF games are not advertised as 100% authentic or historically accurate. If this game was 100% authentic then Americans cant play until 2 years after the launch and Japan needs to hand over their copies.

Women fighting in ww2 is rare, so rare it's like finding a needle in a haystack. I can see why people are upset, it's not about boys or girls, it's about historical accuracy when you tell stories about wars where actual people fought in and died.

Because it's not meant to be a totally historical game.

It's politically correct historical revisionism and a blatent attempt at indoctrination of gamers who are predominantly young men. As simple as that

I really don't think its a big deal. It is interesting to me because it means that there may be more personalization of the soldiers in the new game. There were female soldiers in the war, although not on any large scale but there are also many weapons, equipment, and vehicles used in battlefield games that were not commonplace either. What I hope to see is a more diverse range of weapons and equipment in bf5 compared to bf1. It would also be nice to see a hardcore operations mode.

None of the Battlefield games have ever tried to be historically accurate. It's not a simulator, it's an arcade game with a WW2 theme. Lot's of people want to play as a female character. My understanding is that you get to select and customize the characters you play instead of spawning as a random dude. If you really hate females that much your should find something else to do.

The difference being that the vast majority of those weapons, vehicles etc were unlocks. The base game was on the whole, historically accurate to set the scene for the madness to follow. Its really not about the woman here... It's about the focus on customisations that are an addition to the game and not its main focus. The trailer gave us nothing except this and this is why people are losing their minds.

I don't fucking care! The games looks amazing and the fact that has a female character is a big BONUS for me!

soviet union had men and women serve in the army but i think that should be the extent of female soldiers in BFV. it would be cool if for eastern front games, if your soldier in the Russian faction had a chance of being either male or female when you spawn in. That I could get behind. Character customization would have worked alot better and would have received far less negative criticism if BFV were set in Vietnam or the modern era. Vietcong troops were sometimes female. I can just imagine that scene in apocalypse now where a lady sapper blows up that helicopter. Somebody at EA/Dice thought of those ideas and was overridden because the rest of the think tank wanted to remaster 1942. I guess the public get what they deserve and not what they demand.
